there's how to setup email server on an asus router...

Google smtp server and your wireless router...

The stories about Clinton emails are disingenuous at best and unspecific and implicating when it doesn't need to be...

You point the domain's MX record to your little nas box, and it acts as a mail server.

On Thu Mar 5, 2015, 08:38 AM an alert was sent on the following post:

If you have a WAP in your home then most likely you have an email service on it...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/10026315876

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

Referring to "ones on the left " with a difference of opinion as 'enemies' and implying they are the same as 'the ones on the right'......such thirdway attacks against 'left-thinking' members don't belong on this forum.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Thu Mar 5, 2015, 08:43 AM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Truth hurts. The anti-Hillary brigade is hurting the party. if you can't say you will vote for the nominee you are not helping.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: "..enemies are coming out....I'd watch for the ones on the left.." I am frankly sick of this kind of rhetoric. It doesn't endear Clinton or her followers to me. You do realize that EVERY person gets a vote.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: another worthless, tiresome alert.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No, it isn't an 'attack' on the attackers.
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Truth hurts.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Way too anal for my tastes.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

3. I have many (potential) email servers in my house
Thu Mar 5, 2015, 10:53 AM
Mar 2015

I ran an ISP in my house 20 years ago. I hosted email for others in my house until 12 years ago. I still spin up an email server to test things I'm working on from time to time.

During all that time, every company I've contracted for has insisted that I use their email server for any work related to that job - for all of the reasons that have been said. I've had 2 times that a company has notified me that all of my emails had be collected for a law suit (along with dozens of other accounts not because I did anything). And I know that when I end a job my emails are available for whoever takes over my work and they have been used.

Anyone who insists that an organization should not require employees to use the organization's web service is being disingenuous (or is clueless about email and/or record keeping and laws).

so I'll take a wait and see attitude about any of these new charges. She scares the shit out of the rich and to me that is good. I really don't think she can be bought off so if she was to win I do believe she'd try her best to do what is right. The Clinton legacy has already taken a big hit and she ain't going to want to add to that any. You have to remember that the republiCON party went after Bill just like they did Carter before him and Obama afterwards. There was a lot of good as well as a lot of bad during the big dogs days but overall I came away feeling better than I did at the end of poppy's era. The first Clinton got no help from the republiCONs at all. It seems to me like the masses are getting fed up with this bullshit that the 'CONs are doing. I know it was a surprise to several people, me included, when they found out that the democratic candidates overall got over 20 million more votes than did the 'CONs but due to gerrymandering the CONs still won. This pendulum is going to be swinging back the other way here shortly. it has too or we're truly fucked big time

Although I admit it's not an Asus.

Every time IT comes up as a central issue in a problem in government, the lack of understanding in comments is everywhere, which I guess is not terribly surprising. But everyone seems to think they understand tech far better than they do. It's like watching an entire board full of regular people back-seat drive a neurosurgeon on a surgery.

Evasion of the government system in order to guard communications (for political purposes) is the issue.

In order to fun a mail server, a static translation needs to be in place, the firewall will need to permit tcp/25 (shudder) or 587 (less of a shudder) from ANY source, and an MX record needs to be set up. Having a device capable of listening for SMTP is a far cry from running a mail server. The vast majority of home "DSL routers" or other CPE default to only permitting traffic that was sourced from the inside. Running a mail server REQUIRES that your firewall be opened to the outside. I'm sure Hillary had a consultant set all of this up, but if so, this consultant left a telltale sign of amateurism--her WHOIS record was public. If your name is Hillary Clinton and you have a WHOIS resolving from your home address, you pay the extra $10 to get the WHOIS info masked. The fact that this wasn't done leads me to believe that this wasn't the most robust of setups. It was foolish for her to do this: for reasons of optics and for reasons of national security. Not illegal--foolish.
