discussions, debates and conversations are Great and part of news sharing...I meant more one-on-one in our local communities, neighbors etc.
Seems these days most have their heads/eyes/hands focused on those little electronic thingys .... instead of talking.

"What does that tell us?" Well, it says that I am amongst the many who are more subtlety sucked into MSM media steering the conversation even when it is to counter the bs.

The entire Republican Party (and unfortunately far too many Democrats as well) are owned and controlled by the big corporations. Thus, the GOP pretty much controls ALL the media. How? .....

It's helpful to remember that Republicans ARE The Big Corporations. As a political entity, they are one and the same. They want and fight for the same things for the same reasons. Last week, ALL we heard on ALL the media was:

"Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... Hillary Email ... --- and --- Hillary Email ... "Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . ."Tom Cotton! All Hail GOP's New Hero!" . . .

They all had the same schtick. The same two main stories. The same slant on those two stories.

It's pure propaganda.

can this be moved, play a new song, promote DNC candidates who is interested in getting jobs going, do something about wage disparity and protecting social security. The House has voted 50 times to repeal ACA and we can't get the increase of minimum wage on the floor. The House has pushed KXL bill but nothing for infrastructure repair and upgrades. Do I expect these issues on the floor with a republican congress, no, but elections has consequences and we need to get Democrats elected to get these issues on the floor.

Let's stop complaining about Hillary's vote on IWR and get something going to help our needs today. We can continue to watch the same movie over and over and expecting different endings.

>>> You didn't answer my question: What are YOUR suggestions? <<<

You're busy criticizing mine, but have none of your own?

How turning off shitty news sources going to change issues? If they lose a lot of viewership due to the poor quality of their programs, it affects advertising dollars and that hits their bottom line, then they will know changes are necessary in their programming. So, they make some changes out of sheer necessity or lose viewership and advertising dollars.

1. News media reduces the amount of lying and twisting/hiding facts - changes to their programming to be more honest and complete in their reporting, presenting all sides of issues.

2. Voting public is much better informed due to these changes.

3. Voting public votes very differently than they would have had they been misinformed/uninformed.

4. Because voters voted differently, there is a change in politicians/leaders in gov't.

5. Because there is a change in politicians/leaders in gov't, there is a change in laws.

Again, What are your suggestions? What's a better idea? It needs to change. We all agree on that. But how?

I'm not going to subject myself to the intellectual pollution that is "Fox News" just so their cameramen won't lose their jobs. It's FOX NEWS' responsibility to maintain their business viability. If it is threatened (as it rightly SHOULD be) then it is THEIR responsibility to make changes to retain/maintain their business viability. NOT the public's.

ALL of these media outlets do the public, the country and the economy they rely on a great disservice by blatantly ignoring important news, ignoring important facts and angles on that news, and spewing out fluff, misinformation, disinformation, non-information, and garbage rather than information the public needs to make informed decisions in their lives -- including voting decisions.

AND THEY USE PUBLIC AIRWAVES TO DO IT.

We owe them NOTHING.

IMO, they should be forced by extreme loss of viewership and/or by law to CHANGE their reporting methods.

The Fairness Doctrine - or some version of it - must be reinstated.

But FIRST we need a government that will do that. Go back to #5, above.

THAT'S how.

Your ideas? What do you think we should do?

I do not subscribe to cable at all.

One of my pet peeves is that I would have to pay a lot to get MSNBC. But Fox News is one of the few stations I would get on the lowest cost cable plan.

That is one of the reasons that so many people watch Fox News. They can get it on their cheap cable plan.

I refuse to play that game.

"Turning off" is what got us Hitler, it is what the fascists count on. With respect, it is poor advise.

Turn it on without the volume, but do not amplify the crazy voices, let them know, without uncritical repetition of the Crazy Voice, make it known you are aware and keeping an eye out for fascism...Obama is.

Because we are the MSMs' enablers, and when we quit enabling by watching or discussing whats on the MSM, and not buying the advertised brand of their sponsors in the grocery store, this edifice of malarky that calls itself the Media will collapse under its own weight.
The DVR is the golden BB that has crippled the MSM ad power, and the balance sheets of the companies are in the red. Already many rural area news shows are hosted with the same people on different channels and they are sharing studios to cut down on expenses.

So what does that mean? OMG we'll have to talk to one another!

You want big money out of our government? Well what about money from that same source out of our media too! Thom Hartmann calls this the cancer stage of capitalism in our democracy. Unregulated by the citizenry, capitalism spreads like cancer through all areas of our lives. It could be stopped by the citizenry but that citizenry, (well those paying attention), has been DELIBERATELY set against itself too. Those among the citizenry who follow politics are firmly entrenched in two camps aiming their guns at each other while missing the fact that we are all in the same fox-hole, a foxhole being over-run by those who take our democracy away from us! Think I am being silly? Hey DU, wanna reach out to the Free Republic in order to fight for our common goal of democracy..... well you get it now....well maybe....but then this is just some guy with a misspelled Chicken Little name saying stuff that nobody wants to hear.... so back to the teeth gnashing I suppose.
