Richard Grenell, Romneys national security and foreign policy spokesperson, resigned Tuesday because he was told to stay silent on a foreign policy conference call he organized, the New York Times has confirmed. Theories and reports have circulated about why Grenell left, including speculation that the campaign didnt want to anger the religious right over the appointment of a gay spokesman which aides confirmed was an issue.
From the Times:
It turned out he was at home in Los Angeles, listening in, but stone silent and seething. A few minutes earlier, a senior Romney aide had delivered an unexpected directive, according to several people involved in the call.
Ric, said Alex Wong, a policy aide, the campaign has requested that you not speak on this call. Mr. Wong added, Its best to lay low for now.
Romney aides told the Times that they tried to keep Grenell from resigning but that they also didnt want to anger social conservatives:

Unfortunately, this is one area where "both sides are equally guilty".

(116,464 posts)There are always situations that involve alleged controversial comments. When the RW launches an attack, and other people jump on the bandwagon, it becomes a distraction. Still, people across the political spectrum will demand someone be removed for a controversial comment.
Not defending someone because s/he is gay is simply cowardice.

(23,664 posts)He allowed (not forced) the man to resign because some right wing assholes had a fake outrage over him being gay.
Jones and Sherrod were pressured to resign, not because of comments they made but because some right wing assholes and a fake outrage over those comments.
Sounds pretty much the same to me. The common denominator is fear over fake outrage by right wing assholes.

You're actually trying to defend that shit with a false equivalency?
I noticed you ignored the fact that Obama didn't bow to RW pressure in an exact situation (RW outrage because the person is gay) as Romney.

(23,664 posts)OK I'll grant you Obama didn't bow to right wing pressure in a situation where the person was gay.
But he did bow to right wing pressure on several occasions and let fine people take the heat and ultimately lose their jobs.
If it makes you feel any better I agree Romney is an invertebrate for failing to stand up to this kind of bullshit.
But I can't see how that makes it OK for Obama to fail to stand up to it.
I know you won't agree and you'll probably respond by putting a portion of this post in quotes and then telling me why I'm full of shit for posting it.

...is it that you don't understand about a situation that escalates due to spin (see the child labor rule and the people on the left who were duped) about a comment or issue and rejecting someone because they're gay?
Do you understand that one is a direct assault on civil rights and the other is simply a controversy?
I'm fairly certain that no one here would demand someone be removed for being gay, but would immediately demand someone be fired for a controversial comment. It has happened.
See the difference?
And yes, Obama stood up where Romney didn't. Period.
