I just have to get this off my mind and venting to you guys might work....lol

I just got back off a cruise and had a great time....I went with 11 family members and met a lot of great fellow cruisers on the ship. It was Spring Break so there were many kids and college kids on board which was great overall.

The one thing I kept hearing throughout the entire duration on the ship was that the kids couldn't wait to get back home so they could use their phones and electronic gadgets again. Now I have a bunch of Apple products and I will admit turning off the phone for the last time when the ship was moving away from the pier was a bit disconcerting (it is every time and it is my 8th cruise) and I even did a final Facebook post to say I would be gone a week. I am a Kid at heart.

Anyway, I talked with many adults with kids at various age levels and they all said the same thing, "I can't believe my kids are complaining so much about not having electronic gadgets......do they have any idea how lucky they are to be on a cruise......we NEVER went on a cruise, we went to the beach or a cabin in the woods....maybe...if we were lucky."

I just thought it was funny and so true of society today.......I think ships might be the last place where electronic gadgets don't work...ok you can buy an internet package but it isn't cheap and you still have quite a few obstacles like no way can you play video games at least at high speeds.

Anyhow, just thought I would share that bit of facts going on in our society.

my old lady friends are on their blasted facebook pages capturing every moment all the damn time. It's an addiction.

But it's no worse than mine with the internet in general. I like having info at my fingertips.

I am over 70 and if I go a mile to the post office or convenience store without the droid in my pocket I feel like I've left my pants at home.

Years ago we never imagined being dependent on electronic devices, probably because a pay phone in a booth was the only thing even close to them.

Now everyone has to feel "in touch" 24/7. It's crazy.

I tell myself that it's because I'm responsible for two businesses, but it's mostly info addiction.

now, i find in a line or whatever, i pull out the phone and read something, making waiting doable for me. in the past, immediate frustration at waiting. but.... i found that a mere book takes care of me so that is not dependent on an electronic device.

otherwise, i am not that hooked.

i do get a sense of dread when i pull up into a drive thru line and realize i have nothing to occupy my time, lol. doesnt happen often, and why it is so noticeable.

I just go on my phone, mind my own business, and wait until it's my turn.

my kids grew up without teevee and I finally got off dialup just 5 years ago. Our wifi hotspot is so weak however, we can't stream movies or play games...

So imagine having a couple decades like that - not just a week!

I will say it definitely alters kids when they grow up without video games, teevee etc. My kids still prefer things like reading books and camping. Neither play video games or watch teevee even now that they're grown and could do so at their own apartments.

Even more so they're not glued to their phones. They don't fiddle with them at the table and will happily play cards with everyone else after T-day or Xmas dinner. My 27 yr old lives near LA but works at a living history museum in the mountains and has no cell service up there at all for the entire work day and most of her commute. Doesn't miss it at all - in fact she still has an old style clamshell phone. My 18 yr old uses hers as an alarm, as a navigator, to take pictures at concerts and music festivals (and even those have sketchy cell service) - not much else.

Not only can I read ANYTHING I want on the phone, at ANY time,
I also have the answer to just about ANY question about history
or the physical world at my fingertips.

And now there's "Trivia Crack"!

I don't know how we functioned without them.

I. AM. AN. ADDICT.
