Indianas so-called Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) was signed into law on Thursday and already one Indianapolis business owner is boasting that he has denied LGBT people service at his restaurant.
According to Pink News, a caller named Ryan appeared on Indianapolis RadioNOW 100.9 to say that he is already denying service to LGBT people. He declined, however, to give the name of his business.
Im 100 percent behind peoples lifestyles, and what they want to do, but I dont want them to bring that into my place of business, and make other people that are there feel uncomfortable, he said.
<snip>
He said that he supports the law, but continued to refuse to give the name of his business because, he said, Im not ready to come out with that."

(4,751 posts)(or anyone for that matter), then they should be required to clearly post signage indicating their intention to do so.
This will give people the ability to make an informed decision about whether to patronize such an establishment.
I would never spend money at a place that would discriminate against anyone.
As the OP indicates, the owner of the restaurant is not willing to reveal the name his establishment, because he knows it will hurt his business. He is a coward.

(26,324 posts)What? The fan keeping the flies off the food? The place must be empty for his "excuse" to make sense. Sounds like a real "ptomaine parlor" as my dad used to call it.
Not that I believe for a second this nit wit owns a restaurant. Unless telling mommy to make him a hot pocket and cheesy poofs makes him a restaurateur.
Just like all those "Captains of Industry" who were going to fire Obama supporters from their non-existent companies after the 2008 election.

(41,831 posts)discriminate against LGBT people, they can also discriminate against people of color, and non Christians as well. I hope they get their wishes and they lose tons of money because their hatred is stronger than any good sense they might have had.

(50,261 posts)Then the evil gays can be sure to spend their money elsewhere. I'd also like Ryan to tell us how he decides whether or not someone's gay. Indiana doesn't require them to wear a scarlet "G" . . . yet.
That is the keyword there. A lot of the people those bigots claim are gay are not actually even gay.
I have to wonder if this law can also be used to deny service to bigoted assholes, based on "religious freedom." I doubt anyone would actually do that, but it would be worth a try to show how wrong that law is.

(774 posts)I hope any news or media outlets take the time to confirm or verify these kind of
statements and the people who make them.
Think how easy it would be for someone to call in, say "yeah... gays are not welcome at
my place of business... xxxx", and that caller is doing it as a joke, set-up or framing
a business owner.

(38,187 posts)He's too much of a coward to say the name of his business, much like hiding under a sheet in the woods at night. He's not ready to "come out" with that, huh? My, how the tables have turned. They could thank us when they see how well we have decorated all the closets, but they won't. I love the internet. It has changed how these assholes behave, at least somewhat. They still hate us, but at least they now know they cannot be openly so proud of themselves for it without very real consequences.
Of course, my hometown is not in Indiana, but businesses and churches here still openly brag about their homophobic bullshit and pretend they are so oppressed simply because I exist here, despite their efforts to beat me down. At least I had the courage to come out and openly state that I am gay and they all know where I live if they want to tangle with me and lose. Their assurances that raping me would "straighten me out" have been proven wrong. I'm still gay and 20 years after being raped, I'm almost through my PTSD, or at least I realize what it is now and know how to protect myself from them a little better.
And now, there is the internet, so anything they say and do against me will be plastered any and everywhere I can find a place to type it. They have stopped aggravating me so much since the internet, because they know I will name names and add pictures of their faces and share with the world anything they do against me. See, I just want the world to be able to narrow the list of suspects when one of these assholes finally does me in.

(3,919 posts)bigots are so wrapped up in the passion of their righteous bigotry that they fail to realize exactly whom they are targeting - a family member, a teacher, the neighbor, a youngster wrestling with their own identity, a parent or grandparent, a sibling, a best friend from college or high school, a relative's best friend, a business owner, etc., etc. ...if only they would open their hearts.

(9,527 posts)An anonymous source claims they did something but won't say what business, when, who was refused?
It could just as easily be made up, either by somebody wishing they actually had the "courage" to discriminate, or by somebody wanting to make the bill look bad (not that the bill needs any help in that regard).
I don't put much stock in anonymous sources that can't be vetted by a legitimate news organization. Callers to a radio show don't fit that bill.
