Since we're critiquing logos today...

I thought that I'd present mine to you guys, something that I slapped together a few months ago for my radio show:

The design idea was pretty straight forward, since the name of my show is "The House Fire" I chose to put a flame on a basic shape of a house. It features my signature colors of red and gold as well as variations of each.

The thing's done. This is what I'm using.

So tell me, you logo experts, what do you think? Good, bad, pretty or ugly, I'd love to hear it all.

Thanks!

all the words in the logo read left-to-right, and also the color red seems to be a dominant color, so I accuse you of being a right leaning communist.

Also it's a not so subtle reference to Detroit's own arson problem.

It's a running theme.

All the elements are there, they just need to be rejiggered. It's a good start.

My only suggestion would be to move the bar with the words "Mr. Scorpio's" inside the house (maybe make the bottom of the house bigger to accommodate that). The flames would just be coming out of the house unencumbered.

want rare Hendrix, just let me know. I'd need my son to help me "send" it to you, for I am not capable per technology. But I have an extensive collection of Jimi's work. Things like 5 LPs of him playing Motown.

I think the red MR SCORPIO'S tends to vibrate again the gold. That said, I wouldn't even have put MR SCORPIO'S in a box, and would have wrapped it over the roof in an arch. Also, you're trying to promote your show, not houses...I'd have jazzed up the type styles and increased the size a bit. Normally that kind of suggestion drives us designers absolutely mad -- "Fill up the space!" -- but in this case, I think it's warranted. BUT, as you've said, it's already done. Leave it for awhile, get people familiar with the name, basic shapes and colors, then do a few minor upgrades. People will think you're progressing. I think, all things considered, it's a pretty attractive logo, just a bit basic for a program with such a provocative name.

Consider that 2 cents from someone who has designed more logos than I can count, including a sickening number of political candidate logos. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise...candidates always say "Don't use red, white and blue, it's too cliché!" However, it's like designing a Halloween logo in pastel pink and blue, or an Easter logo in orange and black...certain colors just mean certain things to people. After we present weird color variations, the vast majority of candidates wind up opting for traditional RWB. It's says "America." It's says "Political Campaign." Not as much in local races, but definitely in major races.

So I won't pull punches, okay?

Good concept but too busy. Work on the fire/house art as one unit -- like rendering the flame in such a way as to suggest part of a house shape, for example (a good logo can have cleverness designed into it). Suggest you keep the type elements separate from the art. It'll give you greater design flexibility and be simpler. Colors are fine.

There's a killer idea in there.

Scroll down to where the logo is used and see how on the start button is incorporated. It's pretty much perfectly placed.
