Albany

More than an hour of protesting passed Saturday afternoon before the crowd fell silent.

After chanting and speaking out against police brutality in front of Albany Police Headquarters, the group of about 100 people marched to the corner of Second and Lark streets in Arbor Hill, the spot where Donald "Dontay" Ivy died.

The 39-year-old man, described by his family as a paranoid schizophrenic who had heart problems, died in police custody after a Taser was used on him last month. It remains unclear why police confronted Ivy or how many times the Taser stun gun was used against him.

"It makes me mad that this is what (Ivy's) been reduced to," said Masai Andrews, gesturing to the few candles that mark the spot where Ivy died. "We need to make sure this doesn't happen again... I don't want to do this for my children."
