Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsUntil today, I was rather blase about Mitt Romney...
I was not giving him the same kind of attention that I gave bush when he was running. bush personified the worst of the repub party and I had a long list of reasons why he should be kept out of the WH. With Romney, not so much. Not that I want him in the WH...I don't. It's just that I felt that he was a moderate republican who was of a different political stripe than I was.
I hate to say it, but even the incident with the dog on the car didn't do much to make me become more anti-Romney.
What woke me up is his bullying in prep school. This wasn't some grade school kid stuff. He was in a prep school, high school age, and he knew better by that point. What makes it even worse is that he claims not to remember. I don't buy it. I think he clearly does, but he does not want to be put in a position of having to apologize. Those repukes rarely ever apologize and it's even rarer still if they mean it.
Anyway, I won't take his candidacy for granted and I will not be so blase about Mitt Romney now. His anti-gay bullying is absolute proof of his character and should not be ignored.

Like you, I was simply "not interested" in RMoney because he seemed rather middle-of-the-road as a governor. But he's moved so far right that I find him contemptible now. Yes, he's bad enough to get me excited about working for Obama's campaign.

RMoney is a real POS for doing that. His obsession with that other kid was bizarre. He should have been charged with assault.

(110,159 posts)and most kids dont have that in them. i get what you are saying, and of course he remembers, inless he was just a terror committing these acts all over the place, that there are so many, he has a tough time remembering them all. and yes.... it says a hell of a lot about what kind of a person he is.

(57,936 posts)you will assuredly get trouble.
The presidency of the United States is not the place for someone with even a slight tendency to bullying. It's much worse than dishonesty. There are lots of checks and balances on dishonesty. But as we saw with Bush, there is no way to bridle a cruel president -- no way.

(150 posts)You don't forget something like that----In fourth grade someone touched me and said "you have Mary Ann's germs" I was Mary Ann's friend but I passed the "germs" on. To this day I feel guilty that I didn't do the right thing. Sorry Mary Ann.

The incident with the dog is, in my opinion, the same type of domineering behavior of Romney, the bully. I'm not trying to bust your chops on your admission that this didn't resonate with you, in fact, I'm glad you've stated here what a long of people were probably thinking.
I concur completely that we should never take a Republican candidate for granted. We need to all work hard to see that Obama wins re-election. The alternative is simply unthinkable.

R-Money is a frigging idiot that was born lucky and rubs it in people's faces.

(37,364 posts)himself as entitled to a whole lot just because. There is no way he can act out being self-effacing or humble because he doesn't know what humility is. Hammer it home. You can't fake this. Mitt Romney is a the rich kid bully who became an adult bully. He took his self-assured prescriptive righteousness from his prep school to the board room and now he believes he is entitled to take it to the Oval Office.

(32,090 posts)I know to many folks PETA is controversial (and I have that opinion of their actions sometimes as well) - but here they have a great article on the connection between animal/human abuse. Romney is sad and disturbing - he worries me more than Bush. Bush was a classic "gentleman's C" rich kid who carried on his dad's job and really would've been happier sitting by the pool with a beer (which is what I think he was mostly doing while Cheney was busy fucking the country). Romney however is another story ...
Violent acts toward animals have long been recognized as indicators of a dangerous psychopathy that does not confine itself to animal abuse. "Anyone who has accustomed himself to regard the life of any living creature as worthless is in danger of arriving also at the idea of worthless human lives," wrote humanitarian Dr. Albert Schweitzer. And according to Robert K. Ressler, who developed profiles of serial killers for the FBI, "Murderers very often start out by killing and torturing animals as kids."
Animal abuse is not just the result of a minor personality flaw in the abuserit is a symptom of a deep mental disturbance. Research in psychology and criminology shows that people who commit acts of cruelty toward animals rarely stop there; many of them move on to their fellow humans.

(27,247 posts)As governor of Texas, he immensely enjoyed the power he had to sign a prisoner's death warrant, at one time bragging that he spent an average of only 10 minutes reviewing the cases of the 152 inmates he sent to their deaths and even publicly mocking at least one of them on TV. As the occupant of the White House, he was proud to be "The Decider", and was all-too-happy to get his wars started, even telling the UN to hurry up and get out of Iraq because he didn't want to lose his window of opportunity to start his war there. And he just loved swaggering around in his codpiece-equipped flight suit to celebrate his "mission accomplished".

(32,090 posts)we moved to Texas as he was leaving so I never really experienced him up close. I loathe both Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. I guess my view of how some Mormons treat women does not help.

(21,925 posts)What a stark contrast with Obama who stuck his neck out in a risky way not knowing how this gay marriage issue will play out in the election, such as with Catholic Hispanics and African Americans. Romney can't confront Nugent, Limbaugh, or the people who put pressure on his gay staffer to resign. Now, Romney doesn't even have the courage to admit bad behavior in his youth.
