President Obama Visits Family in Reno

Last edited Fri May 11, 2012, 04:44 PM - Edit history (2)

President Obama sat at a small pine dining room table with Paul and Val Keller and asked about how they learned about the refinancing program they used.

While speaking inside their home in North Reno, Val Keller said she heard about a refinancing program from an Obama speech in Las Vegas spurring a visit from Obama.

"Finally, there's something for people like us," she told the president. Paul Keller said they saved $250 a month.

"$250 a month?" Obama said. "That's real money."

Obama stood with Paul and Val Keller in their driveway and outlined his to-do list for congress.

The crowd chanted "4 more years" as Obama walked toward them and began shaking hands.

"Nobody who fights for this country should have to fight for a job or a roof over their head," Obama said.

"I need all of you to push Congress on their 'To Do List . . . All over the country there are people just like Paul and Val that are doing everything they can to take care of their family," says Obama.

full remarks by President Obama on helping homeowners, Reno, NV, May 11, 2012

All over the country, there are people just like Paul and Val, folks just like you, who are doing everything they can to do the right thing -- to meet their responsibilities, to look after their families, to raise their kids right, give them good values. You're not looking for a handout. You just want to make sure that somebody is looking out for you, and that when you do the right thing that you're able to keep everything that you’ve worked for. That’s what folks are looking for, and that’s what they expect from Washington: to put the politics aside and the electioneering aside, and just do what’s right for people.
