If the election were held this Tuesday, COULD you vote for Hillary or Bernie or O'Malley???

Last edited Mon Jun 15, 2015, 10:32 AM - Edit history (1)

... or have you moved recently
... or do you have the ID required in your state
... or has your local election board quietly moved the polling place from where it's been the last three elections
... or did you get married and your name changed
... or you just turned 18

Just as it is never too soon to have heated battles over primaries that are over 6 months away, it's also never too soon to remind everyone about stealthy (and - frankly - obvious) attempts to suppress your vote. To suppress our vote.

If you are eligible to vote, and have not registered -- get on it. There is no time like the present.

If you've moved, gotten married, or had some other similar life changing or name changing event -- make sure your voter registration information is up to date; find out what your state's voter ID laws are; and make sure your polling place wasn't moved across town.

You (you know who you are) support a candidate (you know you do), and -- just admit it now -- you are secure in the knowledge that everyone who does not support your candidate is an idiot. But idiots who have their voting paper work in order are the ones that get to cast ballots. Don't let the idiots win -- get your registration in order, and if you know another non-idiot who isn't registered, drag them into the electoral process as well.

One last thing -- if you learn you will be out of town for the 2016 primary, remember to learn about requesting absentee ballots.

Small suggestion: You should put the word "could" in the thread title in all-caps.

I don't even have to think about requesting my absentee ballot if it doesn't show up on time. But the Dallas voting clerk in charge of my precinct is usually very good about sending it to me on a timely basis, and I NEVER fail to use it.

"Vote and the choice is yours. Don't vote, and the choice is theirs (and that is exactly what Republicans want)."

But they send me a reminder. Our Dems Abroad group in Switzerland (ADACH) is also very good about reminding us all to get signed up in our state of voting residence.

That included 9 moves and the time my registration was trashed during the Mayor Rizzo charter change fight (I got a Court Order allowing me to vote).
