All jokes aside they may have been given street clothes and a trak phone by the woman that was arrested for aiding.

They were in the "honor block" which is a reward for good behavior and allows prisoners to wear street clothes.

I have a feeling that there might be a rethink of this policy.

She talked voluntarily for days prior to being finally arrested (the point being that as long as she was talking, there was no good reason to arrest her just yet), and it would have been pretty clear if she'd gotten them a smartphone.

Absent a credit card, you can't use Uber.

Somehow, the process of using a smurf to make cash purchases of a smartphone and prepaid debit card (since you don't want facial recognition to pick you up on checkout counter security video) and setting up an Uber account (which I'm not sure can be done with a prepaid debit card), seems a lot trickier than "pick us up at X", particularly since any Uber pickups and rides in and out of the area are pretty traceable.

I would be curious to know whether one can realistically set up a clean phone and debit card. The last time I looked at getting an unlocked flip phone to use with different SIM cards while traveling abroad, they all wanted some kind of account registration, even though there was no service "contract" per se. Outside of the US, you can pick up SIM cards from vending machines at airports, but if they have those here, I haven't noticed.

would have been to check with all the cab companies and Uber if they had picked up two guys there in the middle of the night. I hope.

When I read the accounts of the escape, it crosses my mind that these guys didn't rely on the supposed getway car to be driven by the lady inside the prison. I wonder if they had a backup (or primary) plan for getaway that worked perfectly.

Maybe a couple of motel owners found them and have them tied up in the basement.

At the end of the day, when it's your life on the line, any part of the plan that depends on someone else is a part that you have to be prepared will fail.

Where are those FBI planes and drones with IR?

No other prison-based contacts seem to be implicated.

Hell, a former contact may have left them a car and it's totally off radar, but that's a big risk for a jailhouse buddy.

They up and vanished like a fart in the wind, as the actor says.
