Please Help me...
I am re-posting this, because I've had over 300 views and no one has offered to help (indeed, I know we're all struggling!):
Yes, I need help. It is embarrassing and uncomfortable to say so, let alone to ASK for help. However, I HAVE to pay my rent. AND, my electric bill. AND, my car insurance. Also, I need new tires on my car. The tires I have are over three years old, and are going bald.
I do have a job, which I'm finding quite fulfilling. I am a non-medical caregiver for the elderly. I finally have enough hours to make my expenses, but I did not have sufficient hours for the first month I was employed.
Please, please help me. I don't want to lose my little country rent house. (Actually, I don't want to be homeless as I turn 60.)
I will appreciate any assistance, but I need at least $450 total. If you can help with my tires, that will require another $400.
Please, please, help me. I am very scared, and I need help to get over this hurdle. I now have sufficient hours to take care of myself, if you can just help me now.
I've set up a go fund me page and here is the URL:
http://www.gofundme.com/yha4v3k
(Thanks, Rhiannon12866 and CrawlingChaos, for suggesting Go Fund Me.)
***************************************************************
I've just discovered that my tires will only cost about $300!!!! I am very close to being able to put new tires on my car!!! (The guy who looked at my tires said, "You're very close to walking!" which makes me keenly appreciative of all the help you, my fellow DUers, have given me!!!!) Anyway, I wanted all of you to know, since some of you have indicated that you plan to make a donation today. I very much appreciate all of you!

(1,712 posts)Your link goes to the login page for the people who put up the GoFundMe pages. It doesn't send people to your page so they can donate. You need to figure out how to get to your GoFundMe page like a random user, and post THAT link instead.

(8,267 posts)I have to receive $500 in donations from my Facebook friends before the Go Fund Me site will link my campaign.

(1,712 posts)If you can post the location (city, state) and the title and/or name, I could see if I can locate it and get a useful link...
We've run GoFundMes before for an organization, and I've never seen a requirement about raising a certain amount first before you can find a link...

(8,267 posts)and I cannot thank you enough!
I have been having insomnia, so I went to sleep right after I got home from work today. I have just finished sending thank-yous to all the thoughtful, and generous individuals who've helped me.
I am overwhelmed and deeply moved. I cannot thank you enough.

In having set up my own a few months ago, it's not all that easy to figure out as people would think. The $500 doesn't need to come from facebook friends - I didn't even have a facebook page at all when I got donations. I believe that the $500 amount is what has to be donated to your gofundme page before your page will be listed as possible for the general public to search for. once your page is set up, you only need the direct link to your page to give to people in order for them to donate.
And it really isn't so easy to figure out exactly what that direct link IS. What I did was use the option that lets you change the link to something that says what your campaign is about so it makes it easier for anyone that might be searching for a particular campaign to donate to once you are donated that $500 or whatever the amount is before your page is listed as one that will be available to the public at large. Off the to of my head, I can't remember how that was done, but I'll find mine again and poke around to help you figure out how to get your direct link and change it to reflect what the donations are for. It may take me a few minutes since I don't have the bookmark to mine anymore as I lost all my bookmarks just a few days ago.
Hang on, we'll get it figured out.
On edit: ok, It ended up being easier to just go through my old emails and find the one that said the page was up and running. That email tells you what the direct link to your page is to give to people so they can donate. The link they give is clickable to go directly to your page that people will see when you give them that link. Bookmark it so it will be easy to find again.

(11,065 posts)Monday at noon I'm forcibly removed from here. I don't even know if there's a shelter anywhere that will take me since my useless caseworker never put me on the waiting list which was a just in case measure and now a reality, I'll be losing every single thing I own but the shirt on my back, my car is breaking down and has been for awhile (yet more car sabotage by the scumlord I'm sure), and worse, I've been up since Thursday morning trying to find a good place for Yoshi temporarily since I'd rather die than lose him forever, and now I can't even find a place for my computer or personal papers or anything.
Long story, and I've been thinking about making a post myself since I have no idea if or when I'll ever get out of this hell. And I feel terrible about hijacking the thread with my own miserable tale, so I'll shut up now. I have to get a few hours of sleep anyway before going back to try doing the impossible... there's no way in the world that either Yoshi or I can be here when they come.

(11,065 posts)This is the link to your page... http://www.gofundme.com/yha4v3k
I'm seriously freaked out that the numbers/letters at the end of the link to your page and the link to my dashboard page are identical.
Where did you get the link to my dashboard page? Dashboard pages are where users make edits and updates to their OWN page. I'm horrified that you somehow got that link to MY dashboard page.
chervilant
(8,267 posts)I wouldn't have a clue why your dashboard page numbers are almost identical to mine, but the link I have now goes to my page.

(9,314 posts)welcome. My insurance has a $4,000 deductible and I had a stroke. If my family hadn't helped I would be in bad shape. It's been a rough year for alot of people. First I had a stroke and then my wonderful dad died. Tonight was my first night out for dinner in a year. Other than doctor's offices and therapy my dad's memorial service in May was my first time out for any reason in almost a year.
I wish you the very best.

(11,065 posts)I wrote to them (they're REALLY fast about getting back to people) and they couldn't figure out how that could happen either, but when they checked it again it had suddenly fixed itself. The letter/number part of the link is supposed to be a unique number for each user, and I would have thought it would be computer generated, but my letter/number set for my dashboard page was identical to your set for your regular page where people donate. The dashboard is where you can add photos or write any updates or edit anything to your page and that kind of stuff.
The only thing about the set up they have for the pages is that the money amount doesn't take into account what funds you've removed to use, so people that see your page believe that the amount they're seeing is available to the person who has the page. There's no way that this doesn't hurt people trying to get donations for whatever reason... people think that the money amount they're seeing is money that is available to the person that has the page.
I see you're getting donations, so don't panic just yet. It's a holiday, and people are out barbecuing and getting ready to watch fireworks and having picnics... it's an outside kind of day today and tonight, so try to take a deep breath and see how it goes the rest of the weekend. And loads of people are away somewhere for the whole weekend as well, so it wouldn't surprise me at all if not much seems to happen until after the weekend?
Have you lived at your place a long time and/or have a good relationship with your landlord and/or not been late paying before? Despite my have the bad fortune to be stuck with the most vicious and disgusting landlord on the planet, I've rented many places in my life, and I really think that for the most part if you contact them right away before you're late paying the rent and explain the situation that the vast majority of landlords are understanding particularly if you've been at the same place for a long time, don't cause any kind of trouble like loud parties, or mess the place up and don't have a history of being late on the rent or otherwise being a "problem tenant" even if you don't get enough help and can't pay on time, the situation you're in is unfortunately normal, and happens to people all the time. Bad things just happen, and can happen to anyone.
I'm actually more worried about the situation with your car. I'm in the same boat with engine trouble that's been getting worse for months, and haven't a dime to do anything about it but pray it doesn't die until I can get whatever it is fixed. Is it possible that you could get a good used tire instead of a new one? I did that a couple of times in the distant past, and it was WAY cheaper than a brand new tire.
It really doesn't take much to throw a huge wrench in anyone's world when finances are at a minimum, and it just ALWAYS seems to happen that it's only when you find yourself in a bad spot money-wise, things just like the car bugging out, and the oven blowing up, or you trip on the curb and sprain your ankle or a tooth gets an infection, and on and on and on.
I so wish I could help! Since my own calamity first started I've never been more moved by the financial emergencies of others, and know how hard it is to be reduced to having to ask for help like this. It used to be that one could turn to family or friends, but these days damn near everyone is searching for loose change in the sofa. Nobody but nobody bites the bullet and begs for help like this if they weren't absolutely desperate. The humiliation is just excruciating, and it pisses me off no end that people calling themselves liberals, Dems, progressives, etc. would be irritated and even down right evil to those in terrible need... we of all people KNOW how utterly shit it's been for the average usually working person. Even missing a couple of shifts or having a week of no income coming in can completely savage the average person.
It looks like I'll be online from time to time for most of the weekend before I have to box up my computer and find somewhere for it to go so my scumlord can't get her grubby paws on it. I'll do my best to help keep your thread kicked, and as I said to another DUer earlier today or late last night that I know how you feel, it's the worst place to be, and though I so wish I could do something tangible to help it hurts so much that I can't, but know that my heart is squarely in your corner. Always.
