Only thing that has me on edge are the fucking jackasses who were out shooting off firecrackers at 1 AM last night. I know they'll be out there tonight, tomorrow night, and Sunday night. It's hotter than hell but my windows will be closed because I hate the stink of burnt gunpowder.

I hate this holiday with a purple and undying passion.

neighborhood today, driving very slowly as if looking for attention, displaying an American flag out of the front passenger window. What really attracted my attention were its many rear bumper stickers and the one I was able to get in my sight read, "Erase the Base".

Look it up. Disgusting. Terroristic and dangerous.

I have debated mentioning it here, and not really seen the point because it would only encourage paranoia, but if I had to label the perceived "threatcon" I'd call it BushCo ORANGE.

On military installations, guards are active duty, not rent a cops, and they're well armed and doing more vehicle checks. Police are all over hell lately, way more than usual; at airport(s), the security presence has been much heavier than normal.

They're reacting to a credible threat, but they aren't getting all TERRA TERRA TERRA over it like they did in the old days. They are pushing the visible response teams to the fore. Who knows what they're up to in the background.

Anyone who says that there hasn't been an apparent increase in security protocols recently has not been paying any attention.

Unless they're prepared to say WHAT the threat is, though, what's the point of screaming ORANGE ORANGE ORANGE like happened back in the Tom Ridge Bad Old Days, though?

Why? I don't have TV.

The only thing I'm on edge about is my jerkwad neighbors down the road shooting off illegal fireworks here in the midst of a damn spruce forest. At least it rained today.

I live here year round, but these idiot assholes live in the city and come up on the weekends. They just love to shoot off guns and blow up stuff.

Words cannot describe how much I loathe that mentality!

and I live in a city (but have covered more than one wildfire in the backcountry.) One was started by people firing them guns. Not just regular ammo, but apparently tracers... I won't ask where they got those. Suffice it to say, one person died. and more than a few lost their homes.

I keep hoping they set fire to the gazebo in the middle of the courtyard - that might to take care of the weekend bonfires as well.

I wait all winter to be able to have open windows and tonight they're closed because of the noise and on Friday and Saturday nights they wind up closed because of the smoke from their damn fires.

and I call this bullshit... grade A.

I am actually worried about the idiot driving drunk, that is an actual if minor threat.

And I should edit this, the DHS release was as mushy and non specific as you can get... as in no specific threat. I get it if you work intel, or are a beat cop to keep your eyes open... sure. But this is as mushy and non specific as it gets. IMO does not deserve more than the, if you see something say something... mostly that is the Israeli attitude, as well as the British attitude during the Terror.

Yeah, yeah, that applies to more than just EEEEVVVIIILLLL terrarists from furiegner lands... Personally I am far more worried about my local terror groups... err have you checked the SPLC hate map? And having dived into the real sewers of the internet... yup, those guys are far more noisier.
