HSBC is being outed NOW on CBS "60 Minutes" for aiding felonious US tax evasion

Last edited Mon Jul 13, 2015, 04:10 PM - Edit history (1)

Just for the record. It's quite an extensive expose, showing exactly how
the bank assisted tax payers -- many of them criminals -- to shield their
millions from the IRS.

HSBC "declined" to be interviewed.

ON EDIT: The full 60 Minute report is now on CBS's website, for those who missed it.

We didn't have the luxury of such s stellar long record with Obama,
but he was Mr. Hope & Change and black too. So very different
from Bernie. If there ever was a tried & true people's representative,
Bernie is it.

I think we are incredibly luck to have him putting his life on the
line for the country, rather than retiring in comfort and/or getting
a job as a fucking lobbyist <--which is so NOT Bernie.

Anyways, hope that tells you a little about why I think he's a great
bet this time around, actually the only one with such a splendid
public record, and who knows DC politics inside & out.

Reagan was a better prosecutor of Wall Street crime (Savings and Loans arrests and PROSECUTIONS Mr. Obama!) than Obama has been. If he uses Reagan as his model of governance, he should at least get the justice department to prosecute banksters like Reagan did!

Bernie worked with Rand Paul to get an audit of the Fed so that we could see where the money went. That's a direct attack on the bankers' agenda.

Bernie supports a Glass-Steagall kind of restraint on insured bank money that would prohibit banks from using that insured money to gamble or to invest in risky venture or instruments. He is working on that with Elizabeth Warren.

Bernie's life-long values are going to stop him from giving the bankers an easy ride.

I could probably think of more items, but it's very late.

We usually have a former bank or oil & gas board of director (often both) as Secretary of Defense though it interests me we have an academic in the field of Nuclear Physics. Never mind spoke to soon, a member of "Government Sachs"

----

In 1997, Carter and former CIA Director John M. Deutch co-chaired the Catastrophic Terrorism Study Group which urged greater attention to terrorism. From 1998 to 2000, he was deputy to William J. Perry in the North Korea Policy Review and traveled with him to Pyongyang.[21] In 2001–02, he served on the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Science and Technology for Countering Terrorism, and advised on the creation of the Department of Homeland Security.

Carter was also co-director of the Preventive Defense Project,[38] which designs and promotes security policies aimed at preventing the emergence of major new threats to the US.

Carter had been a longtime member of the Defense Science Board and the Defense Policy Board, the principal advisory bodies to the Secretary of Defense. During the Bush administration, he was also a member of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice's International Security Advisory Board; co-chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee's Policy Advisory Group; a consultant to the Defense Science Board; a member of the National Missile Defense White Team, and a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on International Security and Arms Control. He has testified frequently before the armed services, foreign relations, and homeland security committees of both houses of Congress.

In addition to his public service, Carter was a Senior Partner at Global Technology Partners, focused on advising investment firms in technology and defense. He has been a consultant to Goldman Sachs and Mitretek Systems on international affairs and technology matters, and speaks frequently to business and policy audiences.

He was also a member of the Boards of Directors of the MITRE Corporation and Mitretek Systems and the Advisory Boards of MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Draper Laboratory. Carter was also a member of the Aspen Strategy Group, the Council on Foreign Relations, the American Physical Society, the International Institute for Strategic Studies, and the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations. Carter was elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

What I came across as well as what I stumbled through the Saudi leaks I'm starting to believe "nuclear threats" are "nuclear energy trading threats". Think of TPP

--From the wiki above under his tenure as Secretary of Defense--
The United States is coordinating closely with Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Egypt, Qatar and the other Sunni Arab allies in the Saudi Arabian-led intervention in Yemen against the Shia Houthis and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh,[35] who was deposed in the 2011 Arab Spring uprisings.[36]

--

Following the March 2011 Fukushima I nuclear accidents, China, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Malaysia, Thailand, United Kingdom, and the Philippines are reviewing their nuclear power programs. Indonesia and Vietnam still plan to build nuclear power plants.[4][5][6][7] Thirty-one countries operate nuclear power stations, and there are a considerable number of new reactors being built in China, South Korea, India, and Russia.[8] As of June 2011, countries such as Australia, Austria, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Portugal, Israel, Malaysia, and Norway have no nuclear power stations and remain opposed to nuclear power.[9][10]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_energy_policy

Instead of Sunni Arab allies I wish they would use Wahhabi allies instead but Saudi Arabia definitely wants in on the nuclear trading game.

Sorry to hit you with you all this. Initially I was just going to look through for a recent recap to find out who exactly and how many Secretary of Defense were on the Board of Directors of a Banking or Oil & gas firm (a recent one was both!) but to find out he is a nuclear physicist who is hawkish on Iran in a way that presents them of trying to nuke us or somebody else but given they subsidize an awful lot of industries & government programs & their legitimate transition into using renewable resources to meet their powering needs & all the recent deals to reduce carbon emissions but I have no idea what is going on. I know enough about to economics to know foreign policy is about money and see no reason why to expect differently (particularly with Goldman Sachs looting Libya). Whatever this is I can't tell but this looks to be some tricky 3D chess stuff right here.

-----

Since about 2001 the term nuclear renaissance has been used to refer to a possible nuclear power industry revival, driven by rising fossil fuel prices and new concerns about meeting greenhouse gas emission limits.[3] However, nuclear electricity generation in 2012 was at its lowest level since 1999,[2] and new reactors under construction in Finland and France, which were meant to lead a nuclear renaissance,[26] have been delayed and are running over-budget.[26][27][28] China has 32 new reactors under construction,[29] and there are also a considerable number of new reactors being built in South Korea, India, and Russia. At the same time, at least 100 older and smaller reactors will "most probably be closed over the next 10-15 years".[8] So the expanding nuclear programs in Asia are balanced by retirements of aging plants and nuclear reactor phase-outs.[30]

In March 2011 the nuclear emergencies at Japan's Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant and shutdowns at other nuclear facilities raised questions among some commentators over the future of the renaissance.[31][32][33][34][35] Platts has reported that "the crisis at Japan's Fukushima nuclear plants has prompted leading energy-consuming countries to review the safety of their existing reactors and cast doubt on the speed and scale of planned expansions around the world".[36] In 2011 Siemens exited the nuclear power sector following the Fukushima disaster and subsequent changes to German energy policy, and supported the German government's planned energy transition to renewable energy technologies.[37] China, Germany, Switzerland, Israel, Malaysia, Thailand, United Kingdom, Italy[38] and the Philippines have reviewed their nuclear power programs. Indonesia and Vietnam still plan to build nuclear power plants.[4][5][6][7] Countries such as Australia, Austria, Denmark, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Portugal, Israel, Malaysia, New Zealand, and Norway remain opposed to nuclear power. Following the Fukushima I nuclear accidents, the International Energy Agency halved its estimate of additional nuclear generating capacity built by 2035.[39]

Sorry, I was looking for some that discussed Germany as I have seen that countries name quite a bit but don't think my document search searches the text or very well of my Microsoft documents. But this is one I'm not quite sure what is saying because the most important word, usually a noun, is dis-configured. I've seen Reagan spelled "President Irhejan" (it was obvious who it was based on the rest of the cable). Anyway, whatever this one is saying or naming interested me and reminded me of TPP. As I go through these I lost track of how often I was of TPP.

Base wary of Clinton Foundation's ties to troubled banks

CGI aims to foster partnerships between governments, foundations, companies and other stakeholders to improve the lives of people worldwide. Its Annual Meeting is a routinely glitzy confab, bringing together business and world leaders, celebrities and government officials to discuss policy proposals and global issues over three days every September.

Each year the event partners with two dozen or so major corporate and foundation sponsors, a designation that entails a higher level of monetary and operational support for the conference than that given by regular GCI members

Of the array of sponsors, a few banks were perennial supporters, including British bank Standard Chartered, Goldman Sachs and Germany's Deutsche Bank, all of which were listed as mid-level backers of the event every year from 2009 on. French bank Credit Agricole was a supporter of the event from 2009-2012.

British banking giant Barclays emerged as a "strategic partner" with CGI for its 2010 annual meeting, and gave the same level of support every year after that. In 2014, HSBC became the latest bank to get on-board with the event, signing on as a "convening sponsor," the highest level of support possible.

HSBC, Too Big to Jail, and the US Two-Tiered Justice System

by Glenn Greenwald
The Guardian Dec. 12, 2012

The US is the world's largest prison state, imprisoning more of its citizens than any nation on earth, both in absolute numbers and proportionally. It imprisons people for longer periods of time, more mercilessly, and for more trivial transgressions than any nation in the west. This sprawling penal state has been constructed over decades, by both political parties, and it punishes the poor and racial minorities at overwhelmingly disproportionate rates.

But not everyone is subjected to that system of penal harshness. It all changes radically when the nation's most powerful actors are caught breaking the law. With few exceptions, they are gifted not merely with leniency, but full-scale immunity from criminal punishment. Thus have the most egregious crimes of the last decade been fully shielded from prosecution when committed by those with the greatest political and economic power: the construction of a worldwide torture regime, spying on Americans' communications without the warrants required by criminal law by government agencies and the telecom industry, an aggressive war launched on false pretenses, and massive, systemic financial fraud in the banking and credit industry that triggered the 2008 financial crisis.

This two-tiered justice system was the subject of my last book, "With Liberty and Justice for Some", and what was most striking to me as I traced the recent history of this phenomenon is how explicit it has become. Obviously, those with money and power always enjoyed substantial advantages in the US justice system, but lip service was at least always paid to the core precept of the rule of law: that - regardless of power, position and prestige - all stand equal before the blindness of Lady Justice.

It really is the case that this principle is now not only routinely violated, as was always true, but explicitly repudiated, right out in the open. It is commonplace to hear US elites unblinkingly insisting that those who become sufficiently important and influential are - and should be - immunized from the system of criminal punishment to which everyone else is subjected.

The people who know what they're doing pay countries (Like Dubai, etc...) to invent citizens of their country out of whole cloth and the assets are held in these non-existent person's name. The person to whom the assets belong have the access to the money via various safeguards. So pay Dubai $1 million a year and they'll create a person, so you avoid paying multi-millions.

There was a big write-up on this in some financial publication I took years ago when all this desire to capture unreported income stated getting more serious. That was just one that was mentioned. There's always several ways to beat the system.

More than likely it was Morningstar or one of my other sites I use to gather information. I'd be more likely to read something from there than I would a mainstream publication.

Remember that's their net worth, (according to taxes) that doesn't include hidden cash, money already spent, fake staff salaries, fake fees, fake donations, non traceable private equity investments, undervalued assets, and so on. think about cash you may not report or valuables you don't claim, now multiply that by 100MM.

29. Nothing about its drug laundering?

Bank of America, Western Union, and JP Morgan, are among the institutions allegedly involved in the drug trade. Meanwhile, HSBC has admitted its laundering role, and evaded criminal prosecution by paying a fine of almost $2 billion. The lack of imprisonment of any bankers involved is indicative of the hypocritical nature of the drug war; an individual selling a few grams of drugs can face decades in prison, while a group of people that tacitly allow -- and profit from -- the trade of tons, escape incarceration.

I worked at HSBC. In the US. Every time I found something suspicious I was written up for insubordination. I declined a large lending transaction due to illegalities I found. I again was written up for insubordination, then misconduct and "improper communications" The transaction was cancelled when another participating lender found the issue and they stopped it. I was subsequently fired for "improper communications" when I brought the matter to senior Management. Almost everyone I worked with thought the deferred prosecution agreement was a joke. They continue the same activities today and actually believe that they are not being watched/investigated. The majority of employees are oblivious to the outside world, and the Relationship Managers think the entire thing is junk, laughable and the rules just get in their way. The culture is "find a workaround" which is pretty much just code for figure out a way to make it look like we are complying but do what the customer wants to make money.
When I submitted information/evidence to the proper authorities. I was told that they are still under investigation, as I had suspected. I saw that in February another whistleblower came out about there finding as well and was told the same thing. HSBC and it's employees are clueless, Naive, and living in a fantasy world.
They didn't think branches could possibly close. They did. They thought that the florida offices would stay. They eliminated the entire department and all employees. They have a offices in Buffalo, NY that the people there actually believe aren't going to close, even though 75% of the workforce has been cut in the past 2 years, their tower is empty, and half the jobs are already being done elsewhere.
These people are in space somewhere!!

Or I'll watch but they were outed months ago. The "Swiss Leaks".

There is a Private Equity firm that has a lot of the major defense contractors (CIA fronts) -- Cerberus Capital Management purchased Four Points Media Groups from CBS but what I can't tell but looks to be the case independent affiliates using the CBS logo.

Four Points Media Group was a holding company owned by Cerberus Capital Management, established in 2007 to serve as a buyer for 7 television stations formerly owned by CBS Corporation.

The company took over the day-to-day operations of the stations via local marketing agreements on June 25. The acquisition of the stations was granted FCC approval on November 21, 2007 and closed on January 10, 2008.[1]

KUTV, the CBS affiliate in Salt Lake City, served as the master-control hub facility for Four Points' stations. As such, it served as the "flagship" station of the group. KEYE-TV in Austin, Texas, the other CBS affiliate owned by Four Points, was the only station not controlled by the KUTV hub facility.

On March 20, 2009, Four Points reached an agreement with Nexstar Broadcasting Group to take over operations of the stations through local service agreements (LSAs).[2]

On September 8, 2011, Sinclair Broadcast Group announced its intent to purchase Four Points Media Group from Cerberus Capital Management for $200 million. Sinclair began managing the stations in October 2011 through time brokerage agreements and would supply working capital to the stations in consideration of service fees and performance incentives through the LMAs, prior to closing of the acquisition.[3] The deal was approved by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on December 21, and closed on January 1, 2012.[4]

Sinclair Buys Four Points Media Group for $200 million (2011)

<snip>

Sinclair is buying the group, which includes five full-power and two low-power stations, from Cerberus Capital Management. Cerberus acquired the stations from CBS in 2008, paying $185 million. Veteran broadcaster Dick Reingold advised Cerberus on the acquisition and ran the group for several months before Cerberus contracted with Nexstar in early 2009 to take over management of the group.

At the time of that deal — the recent pinnacle of broadcast M&A — multiples ranged from 11 to 14 times cash flow for sellers. Sources familiar with current broadcast M&A speculate that McGraw-Hill’s asking price for its four stations represents about a 10X multiple of the roughly $20 million in blended 2010-11 cash flow the stations are expected to generate.

Amy said Sinclair expects the Four Points acquisition to be quickly accretive and projected Sinclair will be able to grow the Four Points stations’ free cash flow “on a low teen [percentage] basis” in short order.

He noted that the stations are “in prime middle markets” and “a perfect complement to our already dominant middle market footprint.”

The Four Points group encompasses five full-power stations: KUTV (CBS) and KUSG (RTN) in Salt Lake City (DMA 33); WTVX (CW), in West Palm Beach, Fla. (DMA 38); KEYE (CBS) in Austin, Texas (DMA 49); and WLWC (CW) in Providence, R.I. (DMA 52); and two low-powers — WTCN-CA (MNT) and WWHB-CA (Azteca), both in West Palm.

Sinclair has 46 stations in markets ranging from Tampa-St. Petersburg (DMA 14) to Peoria-Bloomington (DMA 116). Most, as Amy observed, are in midsize markets.

Amy noted that the Salt Lake City and Austin stations are in state capitals, already transmit in HD and should require little in capital expenditures.

Outside of money I'm not sure there is a connection but no one follows the money or so vast and disconnected probably practically impossible outside of transactions summaries. My point here mainly is I'm willing bet Cerberus money is in there somewhere and some of their money is going to independent CBS affiliates so I wonder if there is connection between the delay (Swiss Leaks were in February) or the current outing. Really don't pay it no mind, just extra information.

Anyway this is some of the Investment's firm (like a Carlyle Group) recent transactions.
