I have been trying to keep an eye on the region lately but haven't been able to for a spell. That looks downright ugly.

Just watched The Life of Pi and somehow the reality of being swallowed by mother nature by way of water seems so powerfully raw and fresh all of a sudden.

I hope all those in the path of these storms are able to weather this onslaught. I have a niece who recently returned state-side from Guam too... Glad I live in the center of the continent when I see weather like that!

Thanks for posting, I'll be sending good energy to that region.

That part of Japan is familiar with typhoons and local municipalities work to ensure a high state of preparedness. A tremendous amount of progress has been made in typhoon preparedness in Japan since the disastrous Isewan Typhoon (Typhoon Vera) of 1959:

but looks to be going west. Seems last year one moved ashore in Baha Calif. Just wondered if rain would come to Southern Calif. Something seems to be moving NE out of the Gulf of Calif. on this page: http://www.goes.noaa.gov/dml/west/nhem/weus/rb.html
Could be what brings monsoons to Arizona. (This is the first I heard Ariz. had monsoons, but a friend just moved there and mentioned them.)

The nine lightning strike fires are not so good, but the rain may help suppress the North Fire.

Remember there were five of them. Claudette disappeared but I am thrilled for the folks in California who are getting some well needed rain
