A bizarre kidnapping case that police once called a hoax took yet another surprising turn Monday. The FBI issued a warrant for the arrest of a 38-year-old Harvard Law School graduate in connection with the case and a separate alleged home invasion that occurred last month.
In court documents unsealed Monday, the FBI said that there is probable cause to believe that Matthew D. Muller of Orangevale, Calif., kidnapped Denise Huskins from a Vallejo home on March 23.
At the time, her boyfriend Aaron Quinn told police that assailants entered the home in the early morning, drugged them and tied him up, and disappeared with Huskins. She appeared mysteriously days later in her hometown, unharmed after a person or persons claiming to be her kidnapper demanded thousands of dollars in ransom.
Vallejo Police said after Huskins reappeared that the situation was likely a hoax and that there was no evidence that there had even been a kidnapping.
Months later, the FBIs statement on Mullers arrest appears to vindicate Huskinss and Quinns story.

Here's the charging document -- Even Hollywood can't make up stories like this... I defy you to stop reading it once you start:

(11,833 posts)One of the weirdest things I've ever read. Thanks for sharing it here. Life is often stranger than fiction! From what I've read it seems Muller wanted to get caught. Why else would he do the second crime and leave his cell phone at the scene.

(55,445 posts)I was still saying to myself: "Not sure why they're saving it for the end, but the FBI *HAS* to reveal sooner or later that "MULLER" and "VICTIM M" are the same person, right? Because there's no way this story holds up!"

(11,833 posts)It took quite a while for it to make much sense. It goes in chronological order. Can you imagine the surprises of the neighbors and police. Do you think Muller was part of any gang or was that part all made up?

(8,303 posts)I was wondering in the first place, because he had the woman put the ties on the man, and the earphones thing.
He was solo all along.

(44,974 posts)Husband was physically fighting him. While fighting was going on, wife called police. Suspect then had to run away. Basically, it was a very chaotic scene and he forgot his phone.

(8,303 posts)This is the strangest story, and I feel terrible for the couple involved, who were victimized twice.
This would be rejected for being too strange in a novel or screenplay. But it happened.
