Someone had to do it. If there are enough DU Recs, I'm sure he'll come right back to share his ideas with us all. Really.

Disingenuous at best. Wicked evil most probably.
Dickery and asshatery extreme.
Hope you are having some major kind of fun Mm!
I think it is all pretty pathetic.
If anyone sincerely wants to send a msg of support go to one of other threads of appreciation.
Or here is another thought and what we are going to do, contribute to Truthout tonite.

(62,325 posts)This is a deceptive post taking advantage of the sincerity of many good DUers. At least have the decency to explain your reasons for posting it.
You don't like Will Pitt, that's fine, but to do this is not fine, it is taking advantage of this Community and not very cleverly.
People are beginning to realize they are being deceived it would be better for YOU to explain it than to have others do it.
Second request.
BeanMusical
(4,389 posts)Like the one he posted because he trashed LGBT people.
MineralMan
(146,350 posts)Many already have. If Will Pitt sees it, maybe he'll return. That is the reason for the thread. I don't know William Pitt, so I don't either like or dislike him. I do dislike the way he has written some of his threads, but I don't object to him expressing himself on DU.
I hope he returns and contributes his viewpoint here. If I don't agree with him, I will express myself in his threads.
BeanMusical
(4,389 posts)JDPriestly
(57,936 posts)I just want William Pitt to continue posting here.
I assume that whatever happened between you and Pitt, this post is an apology and an acknowledgment that whatever happened was not important.
These petty grudges that people hold on DU make the people who hold them look as petty as the grudges.
We all make mistakes. Let's accept each other as we are.
I do hope that William Pitt continues to post on DU and that you, Mineral Man, do too.
Wouldn't it be boring here if we all always agreed all the time?
Horrors!
MineralMan
(146,350 posts)I often disagree with that viewpoint, but I don't want him not to express it. When I disagree with him, I say so in his threads. If he's here, I hear his viewpoint and have an opportunity to agree or disagree. If he is not here, I don't. It's that simple.
People are recommending this thread. Perhaps he'll see that and return to DU. I'm all for that. Some people are mistaking my reason for posting. I hope he returns. If he posts things that I disagree with, then I'll have an opportunity to say what I think. If I don't read his perspective on things, that's one fewer opportunity to state my opinion.
DU is about opinions. I wan't people to share their opinions, whether I agree or disagree.
And there it is. I don't care how others interpret this thread, really. People are recommending it to convince WilliamPitt to come back and post. That was the intent - to let people make their feelings known. It's up to WilliamPitt to decide, not me.
Call Me Wesley
(38,187 posts)I'm not sure, but reading through this post of yours, I do not only see a back-smack to people who share a different opinion than yours (that you don't care for, but then tell us that you want to give us a platform to express what you don't care for, so it's a tad confusing from a rational point of view.)
You think the recs are for you? Yay, you made the Greatest page! As a returning host of the main forums, it just might feel good, and you might do a little dance.
Strange thing is, if you change 'WilliamPitt' in your post I'm referring to, to, say, 'TedCruz,' it won't change the sense of it.
No, you do not want him to return, unless you can gain something about it - heck, even think that you, this thread, all the millions of recs brought him back, because of you.
This thread is about no one else but you. And I thought that hosts should refrain from posting stuff like this, but I'm not up to the rules. Perhaps it's fine.

(5,400 posts)I crossposted the following in another thread.
Did I ever get around to mentioning to you that a piece you wrote was referenced by SF icon John Varley?
If not, well, better late than never.A PRE-INAUGURAL MESSAGE FROM JOHN VARLEY
There is only 1 day left in Americas 8-year Millennial Nightmare. There are probably those who feel we should let bygones be bygones, like Nancy Pelosi taking impeachment off the table in 2006. And whats the point of prosecuting the people who perpetrated the so-called Bush Administration upon this great country? Lets put it all behind us and move on to a new era of sweetness and bipartisan light.
Well, fuck that. Sure, on January 20th I will celebrate along with most Americans, wish President Obama well, and good luck. Hes going to need a lot of it to clean up the mess left by these looters and desecrators of all we hold sacred. But we at Varley.netthat is, me and Leeare not about to forget. We will continue to hope for war crimes trials, at the very least, and hope for much, much more than that.
So in that spirit, in this last week we will be quoting excerpts from an excellent recent indictment by William Rivers Pitt, entitled ironically, you may be sure The Greatest Greatness of George W. Bush, in which he enumerates just some of the crimes committed by these low men (I like that term for Bush, Cheney, et al.) who served the worst president in American history.
After the 20th we will stop going negative except, we hope, to report on legal proceedings against the oh, how I love to use this phrase against Bush/Cheney and Co. evildoers. And after the 20th, as soon as he is confirmed, we could all write to the new Attorney General to tell him we do not want to let bygones be bygones. Tell him to nail the bastards to the wall.

One thing I've noticed about postcards, just from a personal standpoint: the size encourages a certain discipline in a writer, in that one has to choose one's words carefully. Kind of like taking up haiku, instead of epic poetry with its invocations, lamentations, exclamations and similes....
But longevity, both in time and substance, has its own place in the scheme of things.
So here's my for whatever good it will do, and here's to Mai Tais and Mojitos in the summer

DU is what it is because of the wide range of viewpoints that makes up its content. As for your comment, you do not know me, so you cannot speak for me. MineralMan
(146,350 posts)That's as it should be. I do disagree with some of his ideas and with the way he sometimes expresses them. That's true. But I don't know the person at all. He's another screen name on DU. When I disagree with him, I sometimes say so. He has done the same with things I have written here.
The link you provided is a good example where my disagreement with his style of writing is a good one. I'm not fond of people writing vile insults about the sitting Democratic President. Not fond at all. I disagreed with him in that thread, as I have in others that were similar to it. I disagreed vehemently. I will do so again, if he uses similar tactics when he returns.
That's discussion. As for your quotations, I'm not sure they're really all that relevant.

Hum, apparently your "sincere" apology for that other "something" wasn't accepted. So sad. What's FR?
Oh well, I guess that you're right. I don't know a thing about you so I have no idea if you're having a blast manipulating people or not. Just a name on the screen. And to light up the mood here's some Andy Warhol art:

However else you know Will Pitt, you don't truly know the long history of interactions that he and MM have had with each other (and other people) at this site. Unless, of course, you've been what is euphemistically known as a long time lurker just now starting to post.
So while you are trying the muckraking schtick, MM is being calm, as he always is (well, almost always; MM did get very agitated about the Confederate flag and called for people to go rip it down immediately).
Why the agitation on your part?
BeanMusical
(4,389 posts)The vast majority of people are being genuine in their comments and recs but the OP is not being honest. Also I've been here for over 3 years which is plenty of time to observe the behavior of certain posters and know a manipulator when I see one.
And that old-timer has been on FR longer than he has been here, from what I've read and been told. So if you believe his B.S that's your problem. Have a nice day.

Cindy Crawford and her escorts (some of whom I knew) got separated from their water bottles during their walk in the ditch on the way to the "Ranch" and she got sick thanks to the guards not letting any of them return to get water.
City boys from the East Coast find it easy to misjudge the effect of the heat in the Southwest -- or in certain places in California, for that matter. So I was concerned.

(10,491 posts)I've been here since 2003, and don't have that many posts.
What did I do in the 2000s?
I donated money to the causes I cared about. I spent a lot of time on Capitol Hill strategizing with staffers I knew. I wasted an incredible amount of energy on John Edwards much to my shame. I helped two friends get elected to their state legislatures; one is a Congressman now. With any luck, he'll be a senator by the time we're 50. And he's everything we would want in a Democratic Senator.
What I else? I got married. I adopted three siblings out of foster care. I adopted two dogs who were days away from being euthanized.
I became a Catholic. I joined and then quit the Knights of Columbus.
I more or less stopped the business I work from shipping about 15 percent of our work force overseas.
I helped a kid get into college.
I created a scholarship.
It's been a good decade.
I don't know who Symbolman is.
The Andy saga still annoys the fuck out of me, because the reason I have money to do the things listed about is because I understand hospital reimbursement as well as anyone in the country. I was around during that time and posted messages and sent DMs and tried anything I could do to get attention, because I knew what everyone was trying to do was noble but completely wrong. And because I was not a DU celebrity at the time, no one paid attention and most were hostile.
"How dare you come here with facts and experience and knowledge??!?!?!?! Our passion shall win the day......"
Of course, the important takeaway from all that was Will Pitt's drunken declaration of vengeance of all those who harmed his best friend Andy (whom he met once and whose fundraising he undercut with a "what's going on here" post). I believe his vengeance consisted of saying mean things to anonymous people.
(By the way, when Will himself was having issues with ACA and wrote his Obama is an asshole thread, I again tried to help because - again - this is my business and I understand hospital reimbursement as well as anyone in the country. I think I was called an asshole when I was not ignored).
In many ways, Will came to symbolize DU to me and it's why I post like three times a month.
Knowledge, action, ability? We scoff at these things.

theboss
(10,491 posts)My wife and I got married in at a university chapel. It's a church with a reverend and with some "spiritiual" trappings, but certainly not a religious service.
She was raised Catholic. I was raised Protestant. Religion was never that big a thing with us in adulthood, even though it was in childhood.
So, we start talking about kids and the religious thing comes up. We agree that if we are ever going to go to church, we need to be on the same team. We talked "non-denominational" but I'm weirdly conservative in some very specific areas. If I'm going to church, I want a freaking point of view, you know. I may not agree that I'm going to Hell, but at least tell me it's a possibility.
She's got a ton of residual Catholic guilt so converting is not a great option. I agree to go to RCIA on a trial basis, just to see what it's about. And much to my shock, I find a lot about the Catholic faith to be really really beautiful. I'm not a weekly church goer and I certainly don't agree with some of their positions....but I've never gone to a service and not come away with something.
I've also found that in some ways, it's a really open-minded faith. The idea that I've had really interesting conversations about life and politics with a priest over a beer blows my mind because I grew up with ministers who acted like the Pope of my town while simultaneously talking about how down to earth they were.

I already addressed this utter crap.
"The truth-out Rove thing was really his last grasp at the brass ring, and that blew up so spectacularly that it's hard to even comprehend what happened."
The 'last grasp at the brass ring is the the poster's characterization. The second part of the sentence is about the only accurate thing in the post.
"Frankly, it's probably for the best that he not hang around here."
That's just a laugh.

(135,425 posts)I said two words--"Fair points" -- in response to the commentary you so ardently rebutted--if you want to refute that entire post, and get into a fight with the author of it, go on ahead. Tell the person who wrote it, not me. I'm just not that invested in Will Pitt and his drama to care. I do agree with the points that were articulated, though and your breakdown hasn't changed my mind at all.
I always got the impression that if he wasn't talking DOWN to all assembled, he was hectoring and yelling at everyone with a robust sprinkling of "fucks" and "piece of shits" and other inarticulate bloviating. I remember the big events that people are noting elsewhere, and I remember that he was mean to people. Flat out mean. I don't think you have to be an asshole to people to be passionate about a cause.
So, you can think it's a "laugh" if you'd like. I don't mind at all. I'm not invested in your opinion, as you obviously aren't in mine. OK?
If you want a debate, though--take it back to the person who wrote the commentary.

(135,425 posts)person who wrote the essay....lest someone start to wonder why you had to dig so deep to tell me you don't agree with me?
I feel so special, being singled out for a post that is only slightly more articulate than "plus one!"
I'll file your opinion in the circular file, mmkay? That's where I keep the "dribble" (your word) that comes my way.

(884 posts)Maybe not the best word, but it was the nature of the deception, as I saw it, that made me think of that word. I'm sure there is plenty of deception on this board when it comes to trolls, but that is more in the form of an ongoing impostor, pretending to be someone they are not.
This post was more like a one time con, drawing people in that didn't understand the intention of this particular game. People trusting the intention of the OP and then getting burned because it was actually a back-handed, ha-ha I'm clever insult. And the game kept being played by the original poster, post after smugly ambiguous post.
No one lost any money, but the mindset, and especially the craftily drawn out play on well intentioned posters, who MM knew were misunderstanding him, is what made me think of scam.
And it did seem a little unique in character to me, among all the other nasty stuff I've seen here, which is why I said I hadn't seen that before on DU. But the fact that it's something I had not seen before isn't what makes it a scam.
So to answer your question, no, the fact that you haven't personally seen me on DU before doesn't make me a scam.

(5,704 posts)I like him on truth out and on here, he is a voice of reason. I once called him on his assumption that President Obama is a used car salesman. He did respond and clarified what he said.
I tried to defend Mr. Pitt in a wrong way and for that I apologise. I should not have used a curse word, tensions are high when you see a fellow DUer being attacked for something that he innocently reported on. We were all happy at the time when he released the news, but it turned out to not be true.

As to why I respond to you on this subject generally, it's to combat the foolish notion that Will Pitt is some innocent martyr sacrificed on the altar of bullying. I'm only replying to you because you've jumped on that silly bandwagon, and for some reason people seem interested in your opinion.
