I Have AT&T Internet Sevice And Am Thinking That They Are Starting To Jock Me Around.....

I've been noticing more and more short term outages of my AT&T Internet Service. It also appears that the speed is slowing down. I'm beginning to think that they are doing this on purpose for us customers that have their DSL service. I keep getting letters and e-mails from them to upgrade to their UVerse Internet service. But it looks like they have restrictions on how much time you get on this service and anything over that time - is charged. Right now - I have unlimited service.

Today I received an e-mail from them. Here's the text:

Thank you for being a valued AT&T customer. To ensure that you are enjoying your AT&T High Speed Internet service to the fullest extent. Should you have any questions or technical concerns about your service, we've set up a special service center in the eastern U.S. to assist you.

For personalized support, simply call us at 844-519-7077 between 9am and 12 am ET, Monday through Saturday.

Again, thank you for choosing AT&T. We look forward to ensuring you are completely satisfied with your High Speed Internet Service.

Sincerely,

AT&T Customer Service

I can't help believe that if I did call them - that they would try and sell me on switching to UVerse and that this e-mail was just to see if I would vent from the poor service I've been having from them as of late - since they started pushing UVerse.

Is anyone else here experiencing the same issues. If I hold out and don't switch - will they ultimately move me to UVerse?

I think they know they have us all over a barrel and will raise prices ,lower speed and services and the bosses will rejoice in their evil castles .

I believe that there is a data cap, but there is also a lower data cap for dsl as well.

I would call a tech and have them check out your setup. I had a lot of outages a few months ago and it was resolved by running a new line in the house. But your router/modem could also be on its last legs. Typically whenever I've had connection issues, it's from the router going out.

Sometimes a faulty dsl phone filter can cause problems with internet connectivity as well.

Most likely there is something about your setup that is causing problems. Or at least that's been my experience.

14. CenturyLink here in the Tallahassee area is having issues with speed

Jul 2015

A few weeks ago my measured speed was less than 1 MBps - I'm paying for 10 MBps. With my PrismTV I'm supposed to have a total throughput of 20-25 MBps.

After several go arounds with CenturyLink tech support a tech finally admitted that it was not my modem, not the lines to my house as I'd been told by other techs, not the lines inside my house, but that it was the main trunk fiber optic cables delivering internet to the entire Tallahassee/Big Bend area. He also admitted that the company does not want to pay to increase the capacity even though they have been selling the shit out of high speed internet in this area and is making a ton of money off it.

So after paying through the nose for high speed internet service and high quality digital TV, I get slow downs and pixelated or frozen TV every evening.

If all the TVs are turned off and if my husband is not on his computer I can get great throughput between 1 and 8 AM. It's very reminiscent of when we had a 14.4k modem with CompuServe dial up. Every afternoon within a short time of the school buses passing by our internet would slow down as the kids got online before their parents got home from work.

I have DSL and was experiencing frequent drop outs (maybe 5-10 minutes) where I might have to restart the router. I got it replaced and all was back to normal . The first one only lasted about 2 years. This one is on at least year 5.

****
And yes they will eventually switch you over but for now they are still mandated to maintain copper lines. When they get enough people to switch they will go to regulators and say they can not justify the expense of maintaining copper lines for so few customers and seek relief--they will get it. I think a few phone companies have already dropped copper service in specific areas but I believe they have to get special permission--for now.

I just updated my modem and router. Night and day speeds. Went from 12 to 48 download on the ookla speedtest.net. DOCSIS 3 modems and 802.11ac router radios (you can get a USB adapter if you have an older wifi card) were, in my case at least, not just hype.

Of course if you are using a hard wired connection then no this won't help and yes start tracking your speeds at the above site so you have real data.

This has been going on for months. I have caller ID, so I just let the answering machine take over. I also have been getting mail solicitations at least twice a week for the past year, that go straight into the recycle bin. I even had a guy come to the door trying to rope me into it. I told him I was not interested. They still don't get the hint.

The sales guy told me that I could get cheaper internet if I signed up for the TV service. I told him that I don't want the TV service. His response was that I could cancel it after 3 months--after having somebody come into my house to set up the equipment. I would have to give all that crap back in 3 months after I cancelled it--and hope that they actually cancel it without all the hassles I fully expect will happen. No thank you.

My service was slow even before the U-verse became available. The only reason I haven't ditched them altogether is that I am trying to get the hell out of here. I don't want to change services, only to cancel in a few months--if I manage to find my way out of the hellhole where I live.

They're trying to get me to up the speed. The ridiculous thing is I can only get the current "up-to" speed. I can't get a faster speed in my area.

I fucking hate these bastards.
