If you look at the recs in threads.....it seems to me as if you see a bunch of names who rec posts but don't ever start threads or post in threads......which leads me to believe there may be a largely silent class of DUers

I could be wrong, I often am.

EDIT: as an example look at the recs in the skinner appreciation thread

DU is a "tough room" and a lot of people are intimidated to post here, you really need a thick skin and not everyone can handle the sort of abuse often dished out in GD and GD-P is basically a mud wrestling pit.

I was a lurker for a while since I was fairly new to politics and didn't want to get ripped for my ignorance. Now that I can handle myself better I can post with few worries. Still learning the ropes though so bear with me.

like you, with only 700 posts. This is the first time I remember seeing your name.

As I have said before "90% of DU does not read 90% of DU"

Meaning that there are about 10,000 posts a day on DU. To read just 1,000 of them and to write half a dozen replies would take a fair amount of time, and you would only be reading 10% of DU if you did that. I doubt if most people here even read that much. They'd have to be fanatics if they did more or super-speed readers.

When someone has to make a huge issue out of leaving, then comes back after a few hundred recs, it seems to me it's more of an ego thing. If someone does't like it here, all they have to do is top posting, not make an issue out of it. I especially hate it when someone has to go through the "I am leaving" thread dozens of times, but always comes back!

I would also like to show my appreciation for trolls, they are so much more fun to play with than are the troll hunters.

For anyone not too familiar with her, she's the heart and soul of the Latin America forum (as well as its steadfast defender against dirty war apologists and right-wing trolls in general) and a tireless researcher of news of interest to the progressive community - especially news of the underreported kind.

Thank you, m'am.

like Vonnegut said in Rosewater

"It's like you are standing on a street corner handing out pieces of toilet paper that say 'I love you' on them.

I don't want a sheet of toilet paper."

That's a quote from memory because I probably cannot find a copy of Rosewater in this forest.

And, of course, those words WERE said by the villain of the book - Senator Rosewater.

Thanks to all. Lurkers I'd never heard of signed in to give me a thumbs up. I don't like being in the spotlight.

Some people whose insights I value highly don't respond when I answer them, so I quit replying to them. We have no idea what anyone is thinking of feeling as they read thes posts. I appreciate all posters who are considerate and work hard on their posts.

I don't take much time now, just post a joke or pic or video to lighten the mood, hopefully. I appreciate all the kind people on this thread who may feel their posts are not appreciated.

And I regret not replying to all those that talk to me in posts, but I get busy, and don't reply. It's just that I flit around, it's not that the posts aren't worthy of reply. It may be the same with my posts that go unanswered.

I have wanted for a long time to express thanks to many posters. I don't do OPs even when asked, not sure it's really worth it.

Hugs to all.
