MSNBC needs a boost in primetime. Keith Olbermann is out of a job after his contract expired at ESPN. It is being reported that NBC News President Andrew Lack might be interested in bringing Olbermann back to MSNBC.
An article in The Wrap on the changes that NBC News President Andrew Lack is making contained an interesting nugget:
Aside from Turness, Lack might be indirectly trying to resurrect another career-in MSNBC primetime. Although there has been no confirmation of direct talks between Keith Olbermann and Lack about a possible return, its not out of the question.
Phil isnt talking to him, but someone else might be, the insider told TheWrap, pointing out that like in many tense negotiations, a middleman not directly part of NBC News-MSNBCs chain of command could be putting out feelers to Olbermann.

(370 posts)He is so freaking arrogant at all times. Regardless of if I agree with him, Keith always came across as the type of guy who would let you know he's better than you at a dinner party. I've never understood his popularity online. Most of my friends are liberals, but I don't know a single person in real life who likes him.

But please, get yourself back to Fox News where you won't have to be exposed to reality. 😘

(370 posts)Since I always thought Keith Olbermann was very similar to a fox news commentator in style, just different in message. Egotistical, Angry, condescending, 100% certain of himself, etc, just from the liberal point of view.
However, since you're suggesting Fox News for me, what programs would you suggest I watch being a pro choice, anti war, pro single payer healthcare, pro gay rights atheist? I'm sure I can find that viewpoint represented on Fox News right?
If you noticed, I did not attack Keith's viewpoint. I attacked him personally. Its possible to agree with someone, and still not like him. And its not like anything I mentioned is news. Ask any of his former coworkers or former bosses (Al Gore for example) and they will tell you the same thing. I think even Keith himself has admitted he's a jerk and also takes his schtick to far some times.

(487 posts)Even his detractors all admit he's talented and smart. And it's not at all everyone who can't get along with him. It's usually just certain managers or executives. He wants things done his way, but that way is usually a good way if not always the best or most practical way from a management point of view. That creates tension.
Without any of us knowing exactly what decisions caused friction in the past, it's an educated guess that he probably needs a loose executive producer giving him guidelines to work within rather than tight specifics.

(113,062 posts)that you know that "he is so freaking arrogant all the time"? funny, in all the time I watched him, I never once thought he was arrogant. passionate, intelligent, angry, yes, but never arrogant,
Shoulders of Giants
(370 posts)Many former coworkers have said he's a huge jerk. I probably agreed with him more than I disagreed, but I just couldn't stand him. He came across as being way too much into his self. Back when I had cable, I found myself much preferring Maddow to him on MSNBC. I'm glad she's the one that still has a job, and is one of the few reasons I miss cable.

(45,251 posts)However, Olberman was 100% accurate about Scott Brown, as anyone who followed Brown's campaign closely would have known. I live in Massachusetts and I did follow it and I cannot dispute a single thing in Olberman's rant. When Brown ran against Warren, his sexism was even more apparent and, thank goodness, helped defeat him.

(2,914 posts)His show was must see TV. He was a brilliant host.
All of my liberal friends loved him.
I don't know a single "con" person in real life who likes him.

I will continue to not watch if they bring Keith back.

(12,655 posts)as good as keith is, his presence will cost too much in terms of money, aggravation, and most importantly, attention. this election cycle needs to be about the issues and the candidates, not about a primadonna who will divert precious attention to himself. we need people who will share and report the news not be the news. this guy causes drama wherever he goes.
i know this is not the popular opinion around here.
sorry.

(1,180 posts)with your premise. Keith is the exact person needed to keep calling out the right, because they avoid the issues and just pander to their base. They own the media and have $Billions to keep their messages in the forefront . The next time one of the myriad of Repub candidates honestly discuss the issues, will be the first. So you may think the next 16 months will be about the issues, but it will become a vicious circle of lies, increminations, and innuendo unless there are voices to call them out. Swift Boat!!
It's not your money; how will his return aggravate you; and now, and very few in this country are paying attention. Any new attention is better than no attention at all.

(12,655 posts)i just think he costs too much, and not just in terms of money.

(22,000 posts)I like Olbermann and we do need someone like him to talk about the issues that aren't being talked about. I also think he can be a distraction because of his ego. The other thing I'm wondering is if NBC will only give him a 2 year contract, just to dispose of him after the 2016 election.

(70,645 posts)I'm glad somebody with a loud mouth is on our side, but Bombastics of whatever stripe turn me off. And those (loud mouth/bombastics) on our side (SHULTZ) are never as good for our side as the wingnut loudmouths are for their side.
I've got friends who are Fundies and who play tapes of "preachers" caterwauling nonstop. My friends seem to me to be torturing themselves, punishing themselves for some reason unfathomable to me. That's what all the loudmouths of whatever stripe mean to me.

(9,895 posts)Keith's show was always worth watching and for the charges of "arrogance" I only have one question...do you people know who O'Reily and Hannity are? Do you think they qualify as "humble"? The right floods the airwaves all day long with human excrement and we on the left are hand-wringing about ONE guy who has the temerity to be less than a docile whipping boy?
Keith Olbermann is politically significant and historically significant in the broadcast industry. After the canning of Donahue and the silencing of liberal opposition to Shrub and his gang of criminals post-9/11, it was Olbermann and those on Air America of like mind and voice that refused to be bought, or silenced.
Bring back Keith and do nto apologize about it at all for anything or anyone!
