We're in the sixth year of a Democratic presidency. We're facing another election This is 2015! Everything has moved on. DU HAS MOVED ON!
Really, folks. We elected Barack Obama. Let's elect another Democrat, OK?

(53,035 posts)No one is perfect, especially not LBJ. Democrat isn't an ideology. It's not the reflection of yourself in the mirror. It's a political party, period.

(146,318 posts)Anyone can do that. What does that have to do with my post? That's what I wonder.

(24,371 posts)I, like a few others below, am merely pointing out that you were not a member here in that era.
I'll be here 12 years in a few days and would never consider writing an OP worded that way.
MineralMan
(146,318 posts)don't we? I chose this one.

That's the difference. Starting in 2009, we had a Democratic President. I didn't have to be here to know that. That is the primary difference I'm talking about. We're not fighting a Republican President. We have a Democrat in that office. That changes the discussion on DU and everywhere else.
Now, we have an opportunity to continue having a Democrat as President. We also have an opportunity to give that President a Congress that will cooperate with him or her to make progress happen even more quickly.
I joined DU because of President Obama's election. I worked hard to help get him elected. Now, I don't want to lose that advantage. A new Democratic President and a Democratic majority in Congress and in our state legislatures is my goal. I believe it should be the goal of all Democrats. That's why I'm here.

(55,981 posts)But there seems to be too many issues that some are afraid to commit themselves to a side. Like the TPP, fracking, XL Pipeline, indefinite detention, the Patriot Act, Wall Street Gangsters, drone killing, etc. It's easier to purge those that one doesn't agree with.

(146,318 posts)I didn't hear about DU until much later. What does that have to do with my post? I joined DU in 2008, as anyone can see.

(11,138 posts)You probably shouldn't offer any comparison of current DU to DU circa 2001 since you cannot possibly know what you're talking about. Furthermore while you were NOT a member here prior to 2008, you were posting quite regularly somewhere else, which is remarkable primarily because THAT site is populated by people who would rather eat their own face than elect a Democrat. This, in addition to so many other recent postings of yours, makes whatever message you were attempting to convey in your OP ring quite hollow.

(146,318 posts)I learn from that. Thanks for your reply. It's still 2015, isn't it? There's still an election next year, right? We all want to elect a Democratic President, correct? What is the problem with what I said, then?

MineralMan
(146,318 posts)electing a Democratic President next year. That's what I'm talking about. It's the subject of this thread. I don't care who the nominee is. We need to work together to elect that nominee.
I hope that clarifies things.
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)You're kinda jumpin' the gun. We can get started on your goals once there actually is a nominee. Until then there is some important work to do. Especially for those that would rather not see another nominee like the last few.
MineralMan
(146,318 posts)your favored candidate. I will be very happy support any of the current three leaders after the convention. Any of them will do an excellent job, I'm sure, especially if we can also give them a Democratic majority in at least one house of Congress.
So, if your favored candidate is the nominee, you can count on my wholehearted support. Will that be OK with you?
zipplewrath
(16,646 posts)I'm so sorry that you're so uninvolved in the larger process that you don't care anything about who is nominated by the democratic party. That's how the GOP ended up electing Gov. Scott in Florida. They'd elect a trained monkey if it had an R after it's name. Instead they elected a medicaid criminal.
So I'm sure you'll be satisfied with nominating a man who ends up schtuping the office intern whilst in office.
MineralMan
(146,318 posts)The only male candidate for the nomination with and real chance is Senator Sanders, and I doubt he's likely to do that. So, I'm puzzled here.
I'd be quite happy to support Clinton, Sanders or O'Malley in the General election. All would do a good job, I'm sure.
Frankly, I couldn't make much sense of your post.

(146,318 posts)A Democrat is there now. I'd like to see us help make that happen in 2016, too. That's the difference between the DU of 2001 and the DU of 2015. We won. President Obama is in his second term. I think we should continue that trend, don't you?

(16,104 posts)Doesn't mean I don't know about DU. It's called due diligence. I don't want to waste my time with posers!

So, MM is correct. It is not 2001. We are in the 6th year of a Democratic president.
We won! We are the "establishment" now! Stop fighting success! Move on!
Let's work to assure the election of the next Democratic president in 2016!
