Princess KiKi kitty rescue by Cortney Elmer, NJ

My 14 year old cat Lulu died in her sleep from kidney failure June 18th, 2013. I had her since I was 8 years old and the house was so empty without her, she was the loud dominant kitty. My other two cats, Izzi and MiMi, spent weeks looking for her. I'm a volunteer at the SPCA and started volunteering again after a few weeks. That's where I met KiKi (formerly "Talia&quot , a three year old Maine Coon. She was rescued while animal cruelty officers were investigating a report of dogs being abused. She saw them, jumped out of a second story window, and walked up to them. She was taken to the SPCA along with five dogs that were nearly starved to death. She only weighed four pounds.

She quickly became my favorite. I visited her several times, she stopped hiding in the back of her cage and turned out to be super affectionate. It was summer however, and she was being overlooked due to the massive amount of kittens. I was unable to visit for a couple weeks, so I emailed the SPCA asking if she was still there. They said she was, but had Stomatitis and was going to be put down. I wasn't planning on adopting another cat, but I couldn't let KiKi die. I went straight down to the SPCA and filled out the paperwork. I fostered her for a month while she was on antibiotics, and she ended up having 14 teeth removed. I "officially" adopted her in September of last year. She's sweet, hyper, and a total princess. She runs the house now, despite being the smallest cat. She wakes me up in the morning, sits on me all day, and sleeps with me at night. I can't imagine life without her.
