I can't say I blame him.. I;m sure he will land on his feet somewhere.. I will miss the attention he gave to labor issues..
He may have had a planned vacation, but I doubt it.. i think he was just tired of being jerked around and said Adios

(7,569 posts)I admire Ed Schultz for his ability to change his mind on issues when he learns new facts. Not afraid to admit he was wrong. Very rare character trait.

(12,368 posts)I've enjoyed him since I listened to him on Air America, and I see no reason to stop following him. I think NBC made a huge mistake dropping him for goatee goober, and I told them so.
They are mostly leaving the people I can't stand to watch: Joe... Spoiled, rude, know it all. Andrea, Chuck, Luke... It's like they belong to this private club and know more than they really wish to share with the "viewers"...I'll be surprised if they keep Chris and Rachel; probably replace them with the Bush twins. One already keeps us informed of her family's idyllic life: at least one Jenna special a week on the Today show.

Why didn't they take Morning Joe? I could sure live without ever seeing that jerk again. Joe's a jerk and Mika's a fake.

Who watches the MSM anymore anyhow? Their ratings are so low, Ed needs to start his own online channel like the YT who have higher ratings online than all the talking heads on the Corporate Media put together.
The old media is viewed only by those who don't want real news.
I look forward to seeing Ed's own online channel and will be happy to
tune in. Since I don't watch MSNBC I rarely saw his show there.
They are they PAST. Dinosaurs, the New Media is where it's at for real news and for honest people like Ed. Dishonest talking heads get those heads handed to them when they lie directly to the people online.

(41,103 posts)Ari Melber (?) of the Cycle is the only one staying I think. MSNBC just did a purge a few months ago- Ronan Farrow gone, Chris Jansing who had a day show made to WH reporter, and Joy Reid who had a late afternoon show to reporter, maybe. Joy is so very sharp, a great journalist.
Why not take Morning Joke, who's paid $millions for that 3 hours- awful.

we're going to miss him. Our media is moving further to the right. It's time we all rose up and protested and support candidates that will help us do something about this travesty. In the meantime, I'm grateful we have DU.

(103,856 posts)want their spokespeople to stray from the "party-line", and if there is an outspoken tv personality in their employ, they will not be there for long unless they toe the line..
Large media corporations are all about homogeneity.
They do not really care about the news/. they only care about the bottom line.
If you have sponsors from the petro-folks, they will NOT like anyone who trashes their big plans to extract every drop of oil on earth so they can sell it..
They will also not want their ad dollars going to an entity who pays someone on the air who actually thinks they should pay their workers a living wage.
Fox succeeds BECAUSE they are in business to trumpet the wishes & delights of big corporations. WE know they are propaganda, but millions are not nuanced enough to know they are being lied to...
There is NO business plan for media that will support a truly liberal stance.. MSNBC (for a short while) pretended to be that, but deep down, their anchors were all wearing leashes..

I'm extremely pissed over this.
The next time somebody on the left boasts about NEARLY bringing down Scott Walker in the recall, I'm going to remind them that at least HALF of the TV coverage that the recall effort got was thanks to BIG ED going to Wisconsin and doing all of his shows live from the picket line, standing out in the freezing cold.

Love to see a NEW, INDEPENDENT network manned by:
Maddow, Hayes, Schultz, Abby Martin, Thom Hartmann, Dar Jamail, Lindsay France, and few, select others.
Regular guests would include: Chomsky, Chris Hedges, Paul Craig Roberts, Richard D Wolff,
retired General Janis Karpinski (on military matters), Jimmy Carter, and numerous whistle-blowers and truth-tellers.
They would have a $olid budget for investigative reporting behind-the-scenes.
I'd pay out-of-pocket for that outlet, I promise.

It's strange there are so many lefty media voices that I totally agree with but can't quite stand their style. Olbermann, Schultz...
Even Maddow, who I deeply admire (and I would not put her in the same category as Olbermann with his aggressive, barking style)--she expects people to listen to long stretches of her rapid-fire talk and complex sentences without any visuals. I'm more cerebral than average but I find it pretty stultifying at times so it's no wonder the shows don't get good ratings.
TYT's style is great but they could still use a graphics person.
Essentially I enjoy Jon Stewart, Colbert, Oliver, TYT. Otherwise, the delivery is lacking.
