Giraffes are very dangerous animals that could kill you.

Last edited Mon Aug 3, 2015, 08:16 PM - Edit history (1)

In the wake of the illegal kill of Cecil the Lion by Minnesota dentist Walter Palmer, other big game hunters who have posted their trophies on Facebook and Twitter are coming under fire, including Sabrina Corgatelli, an accountant for Idaho State University who uploaded images from her legal hunt in South Africa largely unaware of the current outcry against her “hobby.”

Corgatelli told Today’s Carson Daly that when she posted the image of her and the giraffe — which she captioned, “Such an amazing animal!! I couldn’t be any happier!! My emotion after getting him was a feeling I will never forget!!!” — she never anticipated that the photograph would be commented on more than 13,000 times, or that she would become a flash-point in the discussion about the legitimacy of big game hunting.

I see nothing wrong with making the employees and staff of the school aware of this woman's "hobby" because the woman herself posted - actually bragged publicly - about it. If she hadn't taunted people about killing the animals, this wouldn't have become any sort of a story.

Do I want to know if I work with a wackjob who trophy kills and thinks giraffes are a clear and present danger? Yes, I do so that I won't make the mistake of being more than frigidly polite if I had to deal with her.

In fact, this type of thing is pretty much inevitable with the combination of instantaneous global communication and a free market.

People can hit you where you work (financially), so best not to make enemies, or make a public ass out of yourself.

With that said, if she's fired, she'll probably just raise six figures through crowdfunding donations from like-minded idiots anyway.

But somehow, snapping a button on a camera and creating a photo to hang on a wall, just isn't enough of a "connection" for these people. Lifeless eyes, still muscles, and blood oozing on the ground---that's the "connection" such people can't do without. They deserve every bit of grief that comes their way for this.

Giraffes are beautiful, and on the brink of becoming threatened.

Just pure evil. I understand shooting wolves, foxes or raccoons, for that matter, if they are killing your sheep or raiding your chicken coop. That's one thing (Though a big shepherd dog is far more effective at preventing it from happening in the first place).

I also understand hunting white-tailed deer for food that can provide meat to your family and community all year long.

I do NOT understand killing a creature just so you can say "I killed it". I wouldn't kill a cat or a dog for no reason other than to obtain a "trophy", why the hell kill a giraffe?

However, giraffes conservation status is at 'least concerned' with 'extinct' being at the opposite end of the spectrum. I don't see a good reason to kill a giraffe, but their population is not threatened.

Just because the next classification from least concern is near threatened does not put them on 'the brink'. There are subspecies which are endangered however. It is doubtful that the giraffe this woman killed is one of the subspecies. She was most likely on a legal hunt.

Meanwhile, you seem to be in favor of killing animals in America.

It would be easy to avoid killing raccoons that bit you if you did not first feed them and encourage them to come to your porch.

I never once said that I am in favor of killing giraffes. I simply told you that most species of giraffes are not threatened or on the 'brink' of being threatened.

So in order to keep from being depressed all the time about feeling small and shitty...they go out and kill huge animals that are larger than life. That way, something powerful and dangerous died at their hand (nevermind the fact that they do it in the most cowardly way humanly imaginable) and therefore they cannot be the totally insignificant-shitty people they know they are inside.

IMO it is how they cope with being dysfunctional. They kill something big and/or powerful to feel better about themselves.

On Mon Aug 3, 2015, 09:57 PM an alert was sent on the following post:

girrafs are one of the few animals that can bite you while you hide in a tree
http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=7039484

REASON FOR ALERT

This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS

This poster is new and going from thread to thread doing nothing but being disruptive and hateful in every thread.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Aug 3, 2015, 10:04 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The participant does have a low number of posts, but this particular one doesn't rise (or sink) to the level of "disruptive and hateful."

In a situation that I see a lot on DU lately, the alerter has wasted my time and everyone else's by what seems a frivolous calling of the jury. If there are hateful posts, alert us to them, not this one.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: While the spelling and nonsensical comment certainly leads one to believe a troll posted it, there's really nothing here that breaks any rules.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If he's being hateful in other threads, then alert on those posts. Don't go off sending junk alerts on other, unrelated, posts.

I see this post more as a satirical joke post, in line with a number of other posts people have made in this thread. So, leave.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: In light of the general thread and where it was heading, post is rather lame - but, no reason to ban it

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Trophy hunters are inherently warped. To get a thrill out of killing a living thing is indicative of some deep maladjustment to the world - and to justify your little hobby by saying an ancient work of violent fiction tells you to do it is the icing on the demented cake. What kind of human being do you have to be to claim that you "respect" an innocent animal by pumping bullets into its head and ending the life you had no right to take from it?

The state also sports the longest wolf hunting season on record (I think it's about 10 months long) and doesn't do much to prosecute poachers nor are they interested in any species other than some humans and their sacred cows or hunting dogs.
