Corgatelli told Todays Carson Daly that when she posted the image of her and the giraffe which she captioned, Such an amazing animal!! I couldnt be any happier!! My emotion after getting him was a feeling I will never forget!!! she never anticipated that the photograph would be commented on more than 13,000 times, or that she would become a flash-point in the discussion about the legitimacy of big game hunting.

(4,373 posts)but didn't read all of the comments. I see nothing wrong with making the employees and staff of the school aware of this woman's "hobby" because the woman herself posted - actually bragged publicly - about it. If she hadn't taunted people about killing the animals, this wouldn't have become any sort of a story.
Do I want to know if I work with a wackjob who trophy kills and thinks giraffes are a clear and present danger? Yes, I do so that I won't make the mistake of being more than frigidly polite if I had to deal with her.

Idaho State University appreciates the impassioned concerns expressed over the past few days related to the Sabrina Corgatelli matter. As an institution of higher learning, ISU supports the open discussion and respectful discourse of ideas and issues of global importance.
As a public institution we encourage individuals to share their opinions either on our Facebook forum (https://goo.gl/JOMzRJ) or by emailing forum@isu.edu.
We ask that all responses be presented in a respectful and diplomatic matter. Responses that are threatening in nature and/or include vulgar language will be deleted.
And a little further down there is a comment about how comments are closed for that thread.

(442 posts)In fact, this type of thing is pretty much inevitable with the combination of instantaneous global communication and a free market.
People can hit you where you work (financially), so best not to make enemies, or make a public ass out of yourself.
With that said, if she's fired, she'll probably just raise six figures through crowdfunding donations from like-minded idiots anyway.

(12,655 posts)if no one wants to take her classes anymore or give her research money, well then I guess she won't be of any use to the university and they'll have to let her go. It's a free-market solution.
actions have consequences. The sooner these psychotic ruthless killers learn that, the better.

(1,695 posts)Then justify it by saying "they shouldn't be assholes". Pay no mind how it could ruin a persons lives. Bills go unpaid, possible dependents affected..it's all good though, because....justice!!
It's sickening. And no, I do not prove of trophy hunting. Nor head hunting because of disapproval of actions. Fine, be outraged. Blast them in social media..but stop trying to end jobs. It's positively ugly.

What she did is horrific, but it has no bearing on her job. The world does not benefit from one more unemployed person.

(28,257 posts)But somehow, snapping a button on a camera and creating a photo to hang on a wall, just isn't enough of a "connection" for these people. Lifeless eyes, still muscles, and blood oozing on the ground---that's the "connection" such people can't do without. They deserve every bit of grief that comes their way for this.

(39,961 posts)Giraffes are beautiful, and on the brink of becoming threatened.
Just pure evil. I understand shooting wolves, foxes or raccoons, for that matter, if they are killing your sheep or raiding your chicken coop. That's one thing (Though a big shepherd dog is far more effective at preventing it from happening in the first place).
I also understand hunting white-tailed deer for food that can provide meat to your family and community all year long.
I do NOT understand killing a creature just so you can say "I killed it". I wouldn't kill a cat or a dog for no reason other than to obtain a "trophy", why the hell kill a giraffe?
Snobblevitch
(1,958 posts)However, giraffes conservation status is at 'least concerned' with 'extinct' being at the opposite end of the spectrum. I don't see a good reason to kill a giraffe, but their population is not threatened.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)that they are on the brink of near threatened.
I believe I was clear in my post.
Snobblevitch
(1,958 posts)Just because the next classification from least concern is near threatened does not put them on 'the brink'. There are subspecies which are endangered however. It is doubtful that the giraffe this woman killed is one of the subspecies. She was most likely on a legal hunt.
Aerows
(39,961 posts)IUCN. I didn't classify them, they did. They are listed at 80,000 in the wild.
And for the record, if you are advocating hunting giraffes, I think you are a horrible human being. You don't need references for that one - that came straight from the source.
I already posted that I am against trophy hunting in Africa.
Meanwhile, you seem to be in favor of killing animals in America.
It would be easy to avoid killing raccoons that bit you if you did not first feed them and encourage them to come to your porch.
I never once said that I am in favor of killing giraffes. I simply told you that most species of giraffes are not threatened or on the 'brink' of being threatened.

(65,616 posts)So in order to keep from being depressed all the time about feeling small and shitty...they go out and kill huge animals that are larger than life. That way, something powerful and dangerous died at their hand (nevermind the fact that they do it in the most cowardly way humanly imaginable) and therefore they cannot be the totally insignificant-shitty people they know they are inside.
IMO it is how they cope with being dysfunctional. They kill something big and/or powerful to feel better about themselves.

A deer can be dangerous.

(384 posts)trust me, I voiced my displeasure on her Facebook post, but dragging her employer into this? I don't know. I don't like it. She hunted those animals legally. Was it poor timing with her post? Absolutely. And she taunted those who were against her. But I wouldn't feel good about myself if I knew I played a part in her getting fired for legally hunting the animals, no matter how reprehensible it was.

REASON FOR ALERT
This post is disruptive, hurtful, rude, insensitive, over-the-top, or otherwise inappropriate.
ALERTER'S COMMENTS
This poster is new and going from thread to thread doing nothing but being disruptive and hateful in every thread.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Mon Aug 3, 2015, 10:04 PM, and the Jury voted 1-6 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The participant does have a low number of posts, but this particular one doesn't rise (or sink) to the level of "disruptive and hateful."
In a situation that I see a lot on DU lately, the alerter has wasted my time and everyone else's by what seems a frivolous calling of the jury. If there are hateful posts, alert us to them, not this one.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: While the spelling and nonsensical comment certainly leads one to believe a troll posted it, there's really nothing here that breaks any rules.
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: If he's being hateful in other threads, then alert on those posts. Don't go off sending junk alerts on other, unrelated, posts.
I see this post more as a satirical joke post, in line with a number of other posts people have made in this thread. So, leave.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: In light of the general thread and where it was heading, post is rather lame - but, no reason to ban it
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(14,274 posts)Say, for instance, someone joins DU and gets several posts hidden in the short amount of time they've been here. In my honest, humble, opinion, a person who posts like that really needs to take a good look at themselves.
They may discover they are not a good fit for DU.

Trophy hunters are inherently warped. To get a thrill out of killing a living thing is indicative of some deep maladjustment to the world - and to justify your little hobby by saying an ancient work of violent fiction tells you to do it is the icing on the demented cake. What kind of human being do you have to be to claim that you "respect" an innocent animal by pumping bullets into its head and ending the life you had no right to take from it?

(86,610 posts)Gotta remember, it's Idaho, land of hate and disrespect for wildlife. The state also sports the longest wolf hunting season on record (I think it's about 10 months long) and doesn't do much to prosecute poachers nor are they interested in any species other than some humans and their sacred cows or hunting dogs.
