Children's author Mary Engelbreit getting hate mail for anti-racist art

https://www.facebook.com/maryengelbreit

The racist fans of this illustrator's lovely work are so sad she dares to condemn their form of ugliness in her world. She who has always embodied sentimental old fashioned virtues and real family values to them. And they now hate her. I hope their heads explode from their own confusion.

That who we would normally think of as "decent folks" get turned off by these relatively mild pictures.

and those people don't even see themselves in her illustrations that she posted. I guess if no one says anything people won't notice that there are black people in her creations.

I own a couple of things of hers, and bought her magazine for years, because of the wonderful art and other things. She had articles about designers, lots of decorating ideas and other things in addition to her own work. She always had PoC in her art (at least, as far as I remember).

Good on her for speaking out. Funny how little it takes for people's true colors to shine, isn't it?

But when ME gets criticism by her fans for being too political, it is sensational. And certainly caught my attention. That list of artists rightwingers hate grows daily.

Even though race is an obsolete concept (scientifically and sociologically), it still has power in life in the US these days.

Some people think that any mention of race is divisive. They tend to be almost all white and wanting to keep the status quo if not move things back to some rose-colored reminiscence of the Fifties.

... her activist pieces as much as her usual work.

They may just be the kind of people who are perhaps made "uncomfortable" by it.

Generally speaking, Fans of any artist Are often the most finicky people, And they are not required To like Or appreciate everything an artist does -- Especially if there is A big change in mood, message, or style.

P.S. Sorry about the inconsistent caps. My voice to text is being weird.
