avert a slaughter on that train - why is it only the three Americans who are being covered on the American media. Geez- it was such a great thing that they did. Why can't we celebrate all four of them receiving the French honor?

<snip>
I said to myself: Well, dont be the guy that just sits there and gets shot. So I was trying to work out what to do. [The gunman] was at the end of the carriage. I was hiding behind a seat and I was hoping that by doing that he wouldnt be able to hit me immediately, he said.
Norman noticed three young American friends leap up. I heard one of the Americans say: Go get him Spence. The other one said: No, you dont do that, buddy.
I thought great, somebodys actually intervening, let me stand up because weve got much more chance as a team. Lets go!
I just pounced on the gunmans arm so that he couldnt actually use it, and I held his arm to the ground, Norman said. We all held him until he stopped struggling.
The Americans beat the gunman until he lost consciousness. Alek had held the pistol to his head and said Stop, stop, and that had no effect he carried on struggling, Norman said.
When the gunman began to lose consciousness, Skarlatos told Norman to hold down the man while he went to look for any other gunmen and Stone tended to a man who had been shot.
An off-duty French train driver travelling in the carriage held down the gunmans other arm.

See there were two others involved including the off duty driver - and a passenger.

Or simple humility. No doubt, that easily escapes the mind of many.

(65,616 posts)when it was just ABC/CBS/NBC (and the sponsers were just a handful of companies with no control over the editing room) and black and white TVEE. Those days are as gone as regulated capitalism. Anyone that doesn't know or understand is a victim in a way. Those that do know and pretend otherwise are just fools to be ignored. Like UpChuck Todd...can there be any doubt NBC would rather die than let go of GOP closed media? And the rest follow suit while PBS still gets punished for being fairly unbiased. American mass media is a joke the world over.

(90,793 posts)Those young men from California were really quick on the uptake, gutsy as hell.
One thing that really stands out is how much they are willing to spread the credit around. They not only mentioned the participation of the British businessman, but gave credit to the Frenchman who was the first to see the terrorist emerge from the bathroom and gave a big shout-out that alerted the rest of the passengers.
I felt so proud of them for everything.
I agree, it would be nice if the TV media would follow suit.
Sorry for no link,but as usual I'm reading the paper edition of the Times at my kitchen table -- and I still seem to have some difficulty copying and pasting with my iPad mini even if I pull it up online.

I too have problems cutting and pasting from my IPad.
