Jindal Writes Letter To Obama Telling Him Not To Talk About Climate During Katrina Anniversary Visitby Katie Valentine at Think Progress

"SNIP.................
Jindal, whos also running for president on the Republican ticket, sent a letter to Obama Wednesday urging the president not to mention climate change during his trip to Louisiana.
Although I understand that your emphasis in New Orleans will rightly be on economic development, the temptation to stray into climate change politics should be resisted, Jindal states in the letter. While you and others may be of the opinion that we can legislate away hurricanes with higher taxes, business regulations and EPA power grabs, that is not a view shared by many Louisianians. I would ask you to respect this important time of remembrance by not inserting the divisive political agenda of liberal environmental activism.
This week, Jindal writes in the letter, should be solely about mourning those lost in the storm and celebrating the recovery New Orleans has made so far.
But Obama had a different plan for his time in New Orleans. The trip is the second stop in his 11-day climate tour, a trip that started at the Clean Energy Summit in Las Vegas and will end in Alaska. Along the way, Obama is planning on speaking about the countrys need to invest in renewable energy, protect coastal communities, and be part of a global effort to address climate change.

(2,479 posts)Obama to Jindal, "You can kiss my black ass!" (I hope)
I love this tactic Republicans have employed lately. Right when things are fresh in the minds of Americans, when the fear from the shooting is highest, when they're commemorating a horrible Climate event, they act like it's a terrible thing, pretend this fake outrage toward actually speaking of things that matter, as if it somehow is a terrible, exploitative thing.
That's what you call a tactic, in this case the reason for it living outside of reality. It's all about them, about them wanting to keep polluting, to keep doing the same terrible things to the planet.
Opinion suppression.

(6,915 posts)Jindal is so right saying "partisan D.C. politics are unwelcome in Louisiana."
Which is why Jindal has lower favorability numbers in Louisiana than Obama. People are tired of his divisive, partisan, and relentless political attacks on just about everybody. If he only believed in his own words about how people in Louisiana dislike a puppet-to-outside-interests politician, he wouldn't be one.

These 1st class assholes need to move aside so that a REAL politician can step up and take charge. Or they can just stand in the way and President Obama can just walk over them. Bobby's choice.

We have unemployment is over 50 percent. And the ones who are blessed with a job, the disparity of wages is that they make three times less than their white counterpart. Public housing is no more. They displaced everyone. The only equal opportunity employer is the drug dealer. So now we've been in the midst of a drug war. And the tails of it is just in the last two days there has been maybe six shootings. So, again, you know, by the fact that our administrationsand I'm talking about on all levelsrefused to address the real, pertinent issues of the aftermath of Katrina is the reason why we are in this way, in this dilemma now.

Probably would be easier to enlist people in a fight for the climate if they weren't already in a fight for survival, unlike their more privileged counterparts.

(179 posts)I remember living in Louisiana and watching his political rise. He basically gained his fame by reforming the state hospital system and he was also part of a bipartisan commission on medicare. He wasn't nearly as partisan then as he has become now, and he was just a brilliant guy - still is. But it's just beyond disappointing how he's felt the need to dumb himself down so that he can communicate with those who have the IQ of your average dung beetle. I truly doubt he believes 90 percent of the shit that comes out of his own mouth. But it nevertheless has an adverse impact on politics today and he's gutted the Louisiana budget beyond repair.
