He only says openly what the rest of that group thinks and acts.
I have noticed people thinking if Trump lost - then everything would be ok.
We would just have another dumb Republican to run against, so I can't see that the demise of Trump is any big deal.
I may have worded this badly - sorry

(149,699 posts)The other big problem is that he has zero government experience.
The folks who like and support him probably see these two issues as pluses.

Thanks for asking, sweetie...

(37,457 posts)I'm talking small d democratic. I'm not counting fringe candidates and neo-Nazis here.
I'd rather have a boring milquetoast guy like Tim Pawlenty any day (if I was forced to have a Republican president) than Trump.

(13,390 posts)Exactly he has zero gravitas. Imagine if Obama said what he actually thinks (about the Koch, Boehner, McConnell, Trump, certain leaders of other countries, etc) with no polite buffer? I think it could be momentarily satisfying for many of us, but probably wouldn't be very helpful politically or diplomatically.

None of the others seems as monumentally unstable and yet sure of himself at the same time.

(12,600 posts)then if he (Trump) gets booted out, Cruz would then be prez. I think Cruz is only second to Trump in craziness.

Because you're right -- Cruz is another egotistical nutcase.

(6,594 posts)not because he is any way less evil than the other, but because a POTUS can only do so much on his own. The Trump would simply be unable to do that much damage with the ability he would have to govern.
The white house would probably spend 4 years embroiled in a running lawsuit with congress.

(20,006 posts)Doesn't care what anybody thinks; not influenced by peer pressure. Acting as Emperor, he's liable to get out of bed one day and impulsively order the bombing of North Korea, Iran, or China. *Some* of the others *might* be a little bit more judicious.

(5,364 posts)If someone as recklessly bombastic as he can get elected, it means all civil discourse will be marginalized. Of course there will be the same elements as now that would seek to push the middle even further right: elements that would be now written off as total nutcase-ery, would be "normal" in that new regime of thought.
It would install an 'Idiocracy' fascism 500 years early.
