More than 92 million set to be affected by 2015 Global Citizen Festival

More than 92 million set to be affected by 2015 Global Citizen Festival
on Sept. 29, 2015

The 2015 Global Citizen Festival was timed to coincide with the new Global Goals for Sustainable Development. Held on the Great Lawn in New York’s Central Park, a powerful lineup of politicians, celebrities, business leaders and academics from diverse nations stood in solidarity with the almost 60,000 global citizens calling for action on the Global Goals.

Following months of campaigning by global citizens totalling over two million actions, numerous world leaders announced commitments to support the implementation of the Global Goals in a bid to end extreme poverty, tackle climate change and reduce inequality.

The commitments made at the Festival were broadcast to more than 70 countries and the public nature of these announcements means they can be used by global citizens to hold governments and businesses accountable to deliver on their promises.

The collective impact of the commitments made is set to affect more than 92 million people.

To think, the most powerful leaders of the world (who also all happen to be enormously, inordinately wealthy...by chance!) are all wanting to make MY life better, all at no charge to me! All I have to do is trust that a group of old, wealthy, white men who have plunged the world into countless wars, built on a tradition of money worship that has spanned five HUNDRED years, all have my best interests at heart now because they 'want to make a difference'.

Why, I just KNOW I can trust groups like the United Nations! I mean, I can't possibly think of -any- other reason why the wealthiest 300 or so families in the world, many of them intermarried into one another, could possibly want to meet to discuss how 'the world must look in the next 15 years', all backed by a full-court media press and social media pressure to those who 'disagree', with the requisite Facebook shadowbanning should anyone get uppity enough to post something against the Accepted Narrative.

What a joyous time to be alive, I'm sure...

taught, if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything? Sure, your opinion counts, as does your snarkiness, I suppose, but I prefer to look at this as a positive. Apparently mileage varies.

...determining what 'the future' 'must' look like as a positive. It's as nonsensical (imo) as thinking that I should turn control of law enforcement over to the Mafia (and is functionally no different).

and holding leaders accountable for promises they made. I am sorry that you would rather just give up.

and organization of this festival. A lot of good people worked hard to bring awareness to the problem of extreme poverty, climate change, and inequality.
