Sometimes, despite your careful planning, things go wrong.

A last-minute effort is often required. There are plenty of political examples of this. A well-run campaign, for example, can end up with a loss for a candidate. In Wisconsin, for example, what seems like what should be a clear defeat for the sitting governor in the recall election early next month might go his way, instead. With hard work to get out the vote for Democrats, I still hope he will be recalled.

The same thing happens in other areas of life. For example, I went out on Tuesday and cleaned the gutters on our house thoroughly, removing all of the silver maple seeds that had collected. A big rainstorm was predicted for last night and today. The rainstorm arrived, and rain fell at a 1" per hour rate. I looked out the window, and the gutters were overflowing on both the back and front of the house, and a little stream was running in from a problem basement window.

So, as a last minute fix, I grabbed a raincoat, got my stepladder, and climbed up on both the front and back of the house and pulled a plug of more maple seeds from the gutter downspouts. Water flowed again. I got soaked, but saved the basement from any more than a small wet spot on the carpet, which won't do any real harm. Now I hear the basement sump pump running, so that's good, too.

A last minute effort can save the day. I know that volunteers in Wisconsin are doing a last minute GOTV campaign to save their recall and get Walker out of office. A big cheer goes out to them. They are the only ones who can make a difference now. You go, Wisconsin!

Murphy's Law says that there will be some maple seeds left on the roof that will wash down into the gutters and plug them. However, MineralMan's law says that a raincoat and a stepladder can make mincemeat of Murphy's Law in just minutes.

I'm hoping those Wisconsin volunteers have their raincoats and ladders ready. I'll be watching the results with fingers crossed.

I don't believe that any gods or other such supernatural entities exist. Usually, I just laugh at myself when my plans go all awry.

god...with the lower case.
If you are your own god,
then laughing at yourself validates my quote.

It is also the definition of arrogance.

As for gods (I used the plural), there are many of them that people worship. For me, one's the same as the other. I'm not my own god, either. I'm just a 66 year old human being. I'm also an atheist. No surprise, then, that I don't believe that any deities exist.

But, thanks for your reply.

recalling 5 other senators is another and grabbing just one. offers checks and balances. right now there is no checks and balances on someone who is power hungry. Big problem. there's a media blackout in WI. Supposedly people I talk to in WI say way too much outside money from the left is coming in which is a problem since there really isn't. and they've never heard of the Koch Brothers. hence media blackout...

I'd say western WI has best shot. once it became obvious it would be a 2010 rematch. it's a 50 /50 chance walker will survive. But without his free reign. and of course his Lt Gov is also up for it. Is it a bust? hardly. WI voters wanted to wake up Scott. Hopefully either way he's well awake and won't do anything more stupid
