(5,106 posts)most stables some of the horses and some of the "barn cats" get very attached. One "Mama" was determined to give birth in our horse's feed box.

(34,131 posts)We used to have a barn cat that liked riding on the saddle with the riding instructor that was teaching out of our barn. Sometimes during the lesson when the instructor was on her horse next to a fence directing a student, Smoky the cat would climb up a fence post and jump onto the back of her saddle. The horses barely noticed since he was not directly on their backs.
One day I was weaning some of our foals and hanging out at the barn to keep them company. Smoky came over to see what was going on and jumped up on the stall wall to take a look inside. The two weanlings in the stall were dozing and one was standing up against the front of the stall.
Smoky, with his love of riding, hopped onto the colt's back waking him up. Total pandemonium ensured. The colt Smoky was on bolted, bumping into the other colt. Both were freaking out, running in circles and bucking. Smoky, with nothing to hang onto, was thrown to the floor and was running around trying to get out of the stall without being trampled.
I was outside trying to figure out how to get the cat out without letting the colts loose. Fortunately, Smoky jumped to the front of the stall, over the wall and took off for safer places. The colts calmed quickly and were not injured. I was the only one who remained panicked and freaked out.
For some reason Smoky never jumped on a horse's back again even when a rider with a saddled horse invited him aboard.

(30,712 posts)so I will miss most of tonight's game.
I will be texting my son a few times during the after-dinner blather.
Usually, I enjoy this group and I like these things, or I would not participate in them. The local and state politicians need our support, time and money.
My son and his wife went to the Pittsburgh game. They drove, from Chicago to Pittsburgh and back. I raised a diehard!

(32,073 posts)The clip of the black kitty popping out of the bushes and pouncing on the toddler has been out for at least 10 years. It still cracks me up in a big way every time I see it.

(17,505 posts)When I was in elementary school, our neighbors had this big grey cat. My mother gardened continuously. My sister and I would, like, be on the screen porch and from the yard we'd hear my mom: "God Damn It!". The cat continually leaped out of shrubs at her while she was fiddling in the beds.
Like 10 minutes later: "God Damn it!!!!!"
We laughed.
Happened all the time.

(3,702 posts)My cat Scout has lived with all four of our dogs (our Lab mix and our Collie mix have passed away), and we currently have a german shepherd and Lab/Chessie mix - Scout is the one who attacks.
Each new dog we have brought into the family becomes his play thing and boxing mate. He has no fear. He is 16 and still tries to start (play) fights with the GSD.
This video made my day!

(58,785 posts)often went to the front of the yard to be petted by strollers, but she tolerated NO dogs of any size, and they, and their owners if they were with them, learned to pass on the other side of the street, or not at all. She was literally awesome.
Thank you, Are Grits. This is delightful!

She walked in on us right at the beginning of Thanksgiving dinner! She had obviously been on her own in the great outdoors for some time.

(3,163 posts)Our calico does it too, chin to the floor, fanny elevated and moving side to side, and sometimes becomes so enamored of the posturing that she forgets what it is that she was preparing to attack. Usually segues to grooming herself.
