Shooting a therapy dog/ Kansas City Star

major asshole

snip...."Police arrested Matthew Oden, 32, who was charged with burglary, theft and a felony count of cruelty to animals."
snip...." The dog suffered serious injuries but is expected to recover."

The day Meeko was shot, his owner came home in the afternoon and found the home ransacked and the pet injured.

The certified therapy dog works with residents of a senior living center, said his owner, who asked that his name not be used.

The homeowner said friends, neighbors and even some strangers have donated to raise the reward for information in the case to $12,000.

There was a 12 ,000 reward out. And it was because he shot the dog. If he had just burgled the house it probably wouldn't have made the news at all. People here in KC really react to animal cruelty stories. And the little old people at the nursing home where this dog had gone for 4 years were so upset.

In the meantime there was only a 10,000 reward out for a shooter here who shot 2 women in an upper-class subdivision. They weren't killed either.

But I 'm glad they got this guy. There was no reason to shoot that dog. And someone who would do a thing like that would shoot a person just as easily. And he has already been in prison for prior burglaries so he needs to be off the street.
