There is no way a mormon democrat would have a shot to be potus

the gop would destroy them just by releasing details about their beliefs each wk. I never studied mormons, but hearing Bill Maher talk about them is interesting. I wouldnt vote for Obama if he was a mormon.

Please indulge me as to how the heck Mormonism is any crazier than any other religion out there? Christianity? Virgin birth? Talking snakes?

Seriously man, have you ever READ the bible? At least Mormon's are upfront about it their craziness!

The Mormons didn't decide that black people could get the priesthood and go to the good heaven where the Mormons go until ten years after Mitt was a missionary. Coincidentally God changed his mind about black people and let the prophet in Salt Lake know just in time to save BYU football from a boycott by other schools who were refusing to schedule games against them as a result of the school's racism. Let me reiterate that in further detail- Mitt spent nearly three years recruiting for a church that taught that black people were cursed by god with black skin and less worthy of god's love and forgiveness than white people. (Mormons also have some really crazy racist beliefs about native americans. Another story, but well worth looking up.)

They still don't think women get to go to the good heaven unless their husband invites them. Mormon women are nothing but baby factories- even after they die- their husbands get to be gods of their own planet if they're good enough Mormons, and they get to pump out the spirit babies.

I don't think somebody who thinks women and people of color are beneath him should be in a position of responsibility.

Their official teachings and their cultural baggage are remarkably sexist, especially considering their modern western origins.

Just the very idea that the only way a woman gets to heaven is to get married, have babies, and please her husband enough to get invited. Men just have to be good Mormons, no gender gymnastics required.

Yarmulkes have been used longer-- that's it.

Vanilla Christianity, Judaism, and every other religion is every bit as loony as Mormonism. It's just that most of them are built around more antiquated brands of lunacy, and benefit from the resulting air of mystery.

Most Democrats (and most thinking people) would not submit to the top down thought control and sexist teachings of goofy cults.

It's not quite Utah here, but it's a lot closer than I like.

You either come from mob money, mining money, or ag money, or you become a Mormon. Harry came from nowhere with nothing.

Having been raised Catholic, I think I can say with some authority that they've still got the thought control and sexism thing down.

For that matter, Mormons used to be a reliably democratic voting bloc, until the sixties.

Somebody posted a really good link about Mormon history and politics in the west the other day. It explains the split between right and left leaning Mormons in AZ in particular. It was fascinating reading. I'll see if I can dig up the link.

They tried to use lack of military service against both Clinton and Obama. Note how it is not an issue with their current candidate. Or, any of those he ran against in the primaries, for that matter. I don't recall that any of them served, either. Not a peep from those who are the first to claim that any Democrat who hasn't served is "not qualified to be Commander in Chief". IOIYAAR.

not that he has ever sought that position but he is one of the most powerful people in the country. Maybe top five.

I don't know if they have used his religion against him because I haven't been close to Nevada or followed his elections closely.

I grew up near the Mormon Temple here in Oakland, my wife has a large number of Mormons in her family, mostly in Utah. But even the ones here in CA are Repubs. fairly liberal repubs for the most part.
