I have played with Vocaloid but prefer Plogue Chipspeech and Alter/Ego. If I am going to go synthetic, well, let's go full on synthetic & robotic.

A german research-group has developed an implant that creates electricity from your blood-sugar. The MIT has built and implanted a working prototype. (They are supposed to replace the batteries in pace-makers.)
