I keep going back and forth over supporting Donald Trump

On the one hand, as a Democrat, I keep thinking, "Yes! Yes, Republicans!! Please nominate this man!!" The win next November would be absolutely epic. Just thinking about the electoral college in that scenario makes it difficult for me to walk.

But as an American, when Trump crosses the line from jack ass to would-be Milosevic, I cringe back and want to beg my fellow Americans who just happen to be Republican to reject this grinning jackanapes. Even if only 35% of the electorate ends up voting for him in 2016... that would still be 35% of the American electorate voting for a man who is running on a pledge to hire a police force to go door to door for the purpose of "rounding up the undesirables."

I mean, fucking, GULP. That't not neo-fascist or quasi-fascist or even crypto-fascist. That's everything but the cattle cars.

I'll tell you a secret about democracy. Although we talk about the power of the people and iconify the individual--as we should--it really only works if we, as a people, have leaders who are ethical, virtuous, and committed to the rule of law. Leadership matters. It matters when an Al Gore says, "I think I won, but I gotta accede to what the courts say in their rulings." And, sadly, it matters when a Donald Trump gets votes while campaigning on a platform of ethnic cleansing. Even if he loses, even if he loses epically, a substantial chunk of people from the Home of the Brave will have still voted in favor of ethnic cleansing.

That matters in the long run far more than winning an election (which I kinda think we'll do anyway). So if I ever say "GOPers, please put the comic combover on your ticket" please know I'm being sarcastic. Any other nominee from the Red Side of the moral universe would be better for the country, even if he does end up making it a closer election.
