Paris Appears To Be Under Some Sort Of Coordinated, Multi-Site Terrorist Attack

A wave of terror is sweeping across one of the world’s great cities tonight, as it appears as though terrorists are carrying out a coordinated, multi-faceted attack on Paris. Reports so far are scattered and information is emerging fast and furious, but here’s what we know so far.

– Armed gunman have taken hostages at a music venue in the city. Reports have put the number of hostages at around 60.

– There was at least one explosion outside of a soccer stadium while a France/Germany match was taking place. The president of France was rushed out of the stadium and taken to a secure location. Some reports have two explosions taking place, possibly the work of suicide bombers.

– AK-47-weilding gunman are apparently gunning down people in the streets.

Recently a spate occurred between a French and a German representative sent to one of the refugee crisis meetings. The press reported that the French representative told the German representative that unless the Germans changed their policy, France would wind up closing their borders with Germany.

Ms. Le Pen's prospects have brightened with this disaster. The Britain First Crew are probably also "fired up and ready to go" as well.

And anyone who thinks that the "surveillance state" is going away anytime soon can probably recalibrate as well. If anything, measures will become more strict.

incident.

The measures taken will be the same no matter what, and I don't think the current government will be any less stringent than any new government.

This is war - civil war - not just terrorism. They will shut the borders, be very careful about immigration, and set about dismantling the criminal infrastructure in the banlieus. They haven't any option. They have to crush this.

But against Muslims peacefully living in France? Nah. They must be about 15%. Nothing will happen to them.

This matter transcends politics altogether.

Let's not be coy--these aren't Bastille Boys shooting off AK-47s in the streets and into restaurants. These are people for whom French is a 2nd language. And I'll wager most of them oppose the French model of 'secular society.' They would like to impose a rather specific brand of religiosity upon the nation, one where religious law trumps the judiciary.

It's only 'civil' war if you believe that a small minority of immigrants (most of whom are law abiding and reject this sort of thing), some of them undocumented, have equal standing in the society as the vast majority of French people (to include those law abiding immigrants). I would wager most of the population regards this as terrorism worthy of a strong response by government, and I will bet that even the ultra liberal factions would have no problem with a forceful response at this stage of the game. This makes Hebdo look like playtime.

have been from native French, not immigrants.

But France was very worried about the influx of a few fighters among the "Syrian" (more than of the immigrants aren't Syrian) refugees, because it has been the target before.

France is not and never has been hostile towards refugees. They are getting quite hostile towards anyone who wants to come to France to be a jihadist, for understandable reasons.

at home and who were raised, day-to-day, outside the French cultural milieu....if we're referencing the Hebdo business.

It's not the great-grandchildren of deGaulle shooting up the streets--it's disaffected, isolated, ghettoized first generation French - Algerians...and others.

France has never been hostile towards people who ASSIMILATE. They have always been hostile towards people who want to make demands with regard to French culture or language. Just ask Rouhani, who wanted halal meat and no wine at dinner--or ELSE. The "or else" ended up being "Ya want breakfast then? No? Ta hell wid' ya!"
