Islam is a problem.

Do I think that all Muslims are violent? A majority? No, of course not.

But it doesn't take a majority to cause problems. No other religion has even a fraction of people who think in violent terms the way that a lot of Muslims do, and if you want to hide my posts, fine, but you're just consciously choosing to limit free speech. This is one of those rare times when this isn't really bigotry; it's pointing out the truth. We should be fair. We should not apply a broad brush to all individuals. But there's a huge problem within Muslim communities the world over right now. And their faith, their tenets lend themselves to interpretations that make it easy to preach intolerance, hatred, fanaticism, and ultimately, violence.

I don't care if you don't agree with me. I know what I know.

The white terrorism in the New World over the last 500 years is unparalleled and going strong. Statistically, I am much more likely to be harmed by a Christian terrorist than a Muslim terrorist in the USA.

I agree that any terrorist is a scumbag, but let's not discount the hysteria about Muslim terrorists, whereas white terrorists aren't even ACKNOWLEDGED to be terrorists.

I stand with the French people regarding this tragedy and hell yes, I hate the people responsible.

But I don't want to hear any Bill Maher pseudo intellectual bullshit. The biggest terrorist of the last 20 years has been a white Christian: George W. Bush. And the ONLY terrorism in my part of the country has been white terrorists killing black people, Jews and abortion doctors. When white people commit terrorism, the CCM doesn't even call it that, except for the IRA. Maybe we should just agree to disagree about who wins the terrorist Olympics.

There have been plenty of opportunities, at times other than this moment, to condemn the policies of George W. Bush or the rhetoric and vitriol of Christian conservatives. There have been plenty of opportunities in the past, and there will undoubtedly be more in the future. That time is not now...for reasons that should be obvious.

So I again submit that you cannot equivocate and stand with anyone. You cannot sit and stand at the same time. You either stand, or you sit. Are you sitting or standing?

I accept that Western foreign policy has had a negative influence on the Middle East and stoked the flames of radical Islamist ideology with unintended consequences. I'm pretty familiar with the history and get what you're saying.

None of that changes the fact that we have probably large numbers of people in the West who put their own religious values ahead of values that we consider essential to our way of living -- values such as free expression, which we happen to be making the most of right now on this message board.

I am tired of pretending like there's not a problem, when there clearly is a problem. I think it needs to be addressed before we in the West decide to permit more people from these cultures into our societies.

This is one example where perhaps I feel compelled to be just a little bit conservative to protect the rest of me that's progressive.

We never made it government policy to kill gays, but we did make it government policy to exclude them and/or discriminate against them. DADT was not repealed until the current administration and DOMA was recently overturned by the SCOTUS. Churches all over the US are still preaching against gays and running camps and programs to "cure" them. Gays are still very much fighting for equal rights in employment and on so many other fronts.

The US and UK have been far more involved in Arab / Muslim affairs in recent years. Paris has been much less of a meddler in the Muslim world and yet the boldest attacks have occurred there.

At some point, you have to wonder why these attacks happen in France? And what is the French response going to be? Just turning the other cheek and trying to stay out of wars doesn't seem to be the answer. Sorry, but France has a problem with failing to integrate Muslims into the French mainstream, and idiots like Andrea Merkel had better wake up.

The best way to fight terror is with human solidarity

http://www.takepart.com/article/2015/11/13/paris?cmpid=tpdaily-eml-2015-11-13

In the face of multiple terror attacks that killed more than 100 people in Paris on Friday, local residents took to social media to offer safe haven and track loved ones in the city.

Under the hashtag #PorteOuverte, which translates to #OpenDoor, Parisians offered shelter, a place to sleep—and usually a bit of hospitality—via Twitter.

On Facebook, concerned friends outside Paris were able to use the social media network’s Safety Check function to see if loved ones were near the terror attacks.

On Twitter, this offer came from the 18th arrondissement, the district south of the Stade de France, where multiple explosions were reported during a Germany-France soccer match—an offer of tea and clean sheets.

French news reported that Parisian taxis had turned off their meters to help people get home.
