I'm posting this here because if I post it in response on FB I'll piss off a lot of bigots (aka family and friends)
Here's what I'm responding to
"I'm going to start a list. Those of you who want the refugees here in America, leave your name and address-they'll come stay with you."
and my retort
"We've an empty house next door that is open to any family who has fled Syria and the murderous killers known as ISIS. I'm amazed how many of my "Christian" friends and family are scared and turning their back on people who are trying to run away from the violence in Syria. I guess they've ditched the whole "what would Jesus do" idea, unless that is they think that Jesus would turn his back on those in need."
It's good to get that off my chest, thanks

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

(2,884 posts)That hypothetical individual, Jesus, has little bearing on the consequences of the arrival of large amounts of people many of which believe the Sharia is better than democracy.
While I fully sympathise with Syrian families and their ordeal, I can't help keep in mind many bring with them the view that marriage equality is totally unthinkable. Or that atheists are scum. Or that mocking religion warrants violence.
