(9,385 posts)I will write and thank him.
I hear on the news, the ridiculous visa waver program will be addressed by some Dem input on this bill, which is an exponentially greater risk to us, than any refugee issue. Under that program, any of the Paris terrorists could've hopped a plane and been here no questions asked. The word "irresponsible" doesn't even cover that. Insane, is closer.
It's about time to get real, and at least stop being obviously stupid.

(22,457 posts)if is funny you think being for the GOP stand is a "road less traveled". Hmmmmm. Interesting. I don't think you belong here. But that is up to the admins.

ALERTER'S COMMENTS
Logical, I like you but this post goes too far. You're attacking the poster and telling them they don't belong here at DU. Not cool. Deep breaths, my friend. Don't get wrapped up in all of the drama and never make it personal.
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Nov 20, 2015, 09:14 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: I don't know the ins and outs of what happens when people invoke the admins in a post, but this didn't seem "over the top" to me. The conversation seemed a bit abrupt and hotheaded on both sides, actually, but neither poster seemed hugely out of line to me.
Juror #2 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Rats! I was hoping to serve on an exciting jury. I wanted O.J. and got Winona.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

(24,692 posts)If we vote like a republican, we are more likely to get elected. I think that is the mindset of too many Democratic politicians.
Of course, when you abandon liberal principle to vote with republicans in response to fear, you get what you deserve.

(24,692 posts)That has not stopped liberal Europeans from accepting many refugees. Nor should it stop us. We should not mimic the conservative countries of the Gulf but the liberal countries of Europe.

(3,864 posts)Reps. Raúl M. Grijalva (D-Ariz.) and Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), who co-chair the Congressional Progressive Caucus, called the bill a direct assault on a fundamental American value which is to provide a safe haven for our most vulnerable neighbors.
Grijalva and Ellison said they were proud to oppose the bill which they characterized as a repetition of a past mistakes that have tarnished American history. Syrian refugees are fleeing persecution and violence from the very same terrorists that attacked Paris last week, they said. We cannot allow fear-mongering to influence policy that could mean the difference between life and death for these desperate families. We stand proudly against misguided attempts to repeat past mistakes that tarnish our nations history.
The bill, they said, diverts resources from where they are really needed by creating an excessive review process that would add years to the resettlement process and prevent thousands of people from getting the protection they need. Our Syrian refugee vetting process is already the most comprehensive in the world, and these changes would stretch the federal governments limited resources. Closing our doors to Syrian refugees fleeing violence and persecution isnt just morally wrong; it threatens our national security by fueling the extremist narrative that the West is at war with Islam.

AND the California Democratic Party has passed down an edict from on high -- don't even THINK about primarying any "Democrat" incumbent or we'll come after your ass. So . . . the only way to get rid of Costa is to get a Republican in the seat. Thanks, CDP!

(16,245 posts)I have seen a number of people on this site, supposed progressives, falling for the fear bullshit. DON'T BUY INTO IT! It is nonsense.
I know there is no reasoning with the irrational, but let me try. Not one of those French attackers was a refugee. Not a single one. 7 of the 8 were either Belgian or French. And all were in the country legally. And not as refugees.
Also, you have a much better chance of dying in a car accident, in a house fire, or by falling in your shower, then do of being killed in a terrorist attack. You have a better chance of being eaten by a shark (which is still much less than your chances of being killed by a COW).
By all means, let fear run your life. Let it make you afraid of children from war-torn countries. It will not run mine.
