If you find yourself in a terror attack similar to the ones that hit Paris last week, do not play dead.
Thats part of the grim new guidance (pdf) being issued by the UK National Counter-Terrorism Security Office (Nactso). The document outlines what to do in response to a fast-moving incident such as a firearms or weapons attack.
The advice is based on some evidence from victims of the assault on the Bataclan music hall, the deadliest site of the Paris attacks where gunmen fired indiscriminately at the crowd. Some were able to escape after playing dead among pools of blood.
But Nactso says that if you can see the attacker, they may be able to see you. Instead, the document urges those who find themselves in such an attack to:
Escape if you can.
Consider the safest options.
Is there a safe route? RUN if not HIDE.
Can you get there without exposing yourself to greater danger?
Insist others leave with you.
Leave belongings behind.

(8,830 posts)families of all the dead people killed in terrorist attacks that their loved one should have died trying to take the motherf**ker out, okay?
I suspect those families won't care for it much for your keyboard warrior attitude, but hey - give it a try. I doubt they're armed.

(25,406 posts)playing dead could be an excellent idea. I've read many news stories where people survived by playing dead.
