(37,748 posts)Satire predicated on nuance can indeed, be rather complex for the irrational mind.

(2,337 posts)It's always funny to see some use big words, yet seem to have no idea what they mean.
Most people understand satire to have some basis in reality. A cartoon making fun of trump might pick fun at his hair, for example. A cartoon depicting trump as a jock or a yokel wouldn't make much sense, looking ham fisted and forced. Sure, you got an insult worked in there, but it's like calling Anne Coulter a fatass. It doesn't make any sense. The wit of satire comes from picking at reality. As gwb has been more or less apolitical involved since leaving office, and has if anything been sympathetic to Obama for his burden of office, the punchline us forced and flat.
Now if the cartoon had the guy reading the paper say something like "no, that was you last week", it would make more sense.
Here. This cartoon is really subtle and nuanced. It should appeal to your highbrow and refined sense of humor.

When we think of Islam we think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world. Billions of people find comfort and solace and peace. And that's made brothers and sisters out of every race -- out of every race.
America counts millions of Muslims amongst our citizens, and Muslims make an incredibly valuable contribution to our country. Muslims are doctors, lawyers, law professors, members of the military, entrepreneurs, shopkeepers, moms and dads. And they need to be treated with respect. In our anger and emotion, our fellow Americans must treat each other with respect."

Until that disconnect is resolved we cannot really say we are against religious fundamentalism and extremism.
