Who stuffed this microwave antenna to the bursting point with 300 pounds (about 35-50 gallons) of acorns?
Some say it was a squirrel, others blame a woodpecker. But these animals are so similar that it is hardly worth arguing about. Just watch the video.

(111,305 posts)It's been proven that squirrels bury their acorns and other nuts but can't find them once they're buried. They dig at random and usually find acorns buried by some other animal.
My guess is that some squirrel was tired of risking attacks by predators on the ground and used this thing for several years, never realizing that once the acorns went in, there was no way for him to retrieve them.
300 pounds of them is impressive. I hope they bothered to plug up the holes.

(37,452 posts)an old car I bought a couple years ago was a bank for some squirrel to make acorn deposits. I pulled the console out and discovered the whorde. I couldn't figure out how he got them in there.

(20,886 posts)A client had nice green decorative shutters on his house. The woodpeckers dropped acorns behind them, and then pecked holes in the shutters trying to get to them. We decided to just remove the shutters and solve the problem. When my guy took them down, he was almost knocked off the ladder by the deluge of acorns.
They're called acorn woodpeckers for a reason.
Here's a sample of what they've done to an abandoned house near me.

(6,169 posts)Acorn woodpeckers to be exact. They like to stuff acorns in crevasses.
Either way, I feel sorry for the animals who just lost their whole winter supply of food.
