After outcry, Minnesota GOP deletes tweet about 'Negro problem'

Source: Minneapolis Star-Tribune

A tweet sent out yesterday by the Seventh Congressional District Republicans with a message the DFL called "racist and bigoted" has been taken down and the DFL Party chair has asked the Minnesota GOP to apologize to the people of Minnesota.

"MN #DFL now propose a "special session" to deal with their self-created "#negroproblem" the tweet, which was posted last night, said. It linked to a Facebook message that was also apparently taken down.

Last week, Minnesota DFL leaders said that black joblessness and poverty should be part of a proposed legislative special session to be held later this year or early next year. The DFL proposal comes at a time when Black Lives Matter Minneapolis has had sustained protests outside the 4th Precinct in North Minneapolis for a week over the fatal police shooting of a black man, Jamar Clark.

"Regrettably these comments have become commonplace in the Republican party and it should be no surprise that they are now an accepted and normal part of their conversation," DFL Chairman Ken Martin said in a statement Monday night. "There is absolutely no place for this kind of ugly language in our state and we call on Chairman Downey to apologize to the people of Minnesota for the racist and bigoted comment from the Minnesota 7th Congressional District Republican Party."

I think that is one of the reasons peaceful protests work well against conservatives. Given enough time they always get their foot, ankle, shin and all the rest in their mouth.

It's tempting to think that the racists are all safely tucked below the Mason-Dixon Line, but it's a pox on the entire nation. One need look no further than the open and abject hatred of the Syrian refugees to see American racism laid bare, but that's only one obvious example of the whites-only sentiment that's rampant throughout our fine society.

No state is innocent, and the guilt sure as hell isn't confined to the ex-confederacy.

I've lived, up here in Placer County for three years now and I have to agree.

Lots of Ya-whos who seem to think that every other race is somewhat inferior to them. I think a lot of this goes back to the gold rush.
