Thanksgiving - No Politics Because They Fear Me

The conservatives in my family don't talk politics with me. Ever. They know better.

I pay attention, and can easily prove all their bs is bs.

Every subject, there is no debate.

Conservative = Wrong

And I can prove I am right with a link in every situation.

They don't even try me.

Other stuff to talk about.....

to try to prove "all their bs is bs", when they quote verbatim misleading "facts" they've gotten from the Heritage Foundation or AEI or Hoover Institution or George Will. I know conservatives who have such tons of such misinformation memorized.

The volume of bullshit is just incredible. Yes, you can debunk it, if you want to make it your life's work. Even after you do debunk a particular story, they'll go right back to the same source that you've just proven has lied to them and they'll still believe whatever they read or hear from that source.

It just ruins the experience for everyone, and there's nothing to be gained from it.

Why argue when 'ol yallow (not my real name) can wipe the floor with your talking points.

They have surrendered.

They can keep their Fox News "facts" to themselves.

Takes a lot of work to know a response to every lie.

They are obsessed and know no boundaries. Last time I was at my parents' place for Christmas I had to ask my dad THREE times to give it a rest, please, while we were eating Christmas dinner.

I guess we were lucky he even turned the bloody teevee off that long - it pained him, I could tell. He wasn't interested in any lingering at the table chatting and laughing and joking and telling stories with the family. No, he needed his fix. As soon as the forks were put down, he leaped up and bolted over to the teevee to turn that shit back on.

If you live in a City such as Birmingham and if you are a manager in a large corporation, associates who don't know you very well just assume you are every bit as conservative as they are. However, it is considered bad form to criticize the politics of others.

Early in Obama's presidency, one day I went into our break room at work to refill my coffee cup. The TV was on and one of the other managers present seemed to be a bit upset about something. I made the mistake of saying something like, "Hey, is something wrong?"

Evidently it was something on the news that had her flustered because she responded: 'That damn Obama, I can't believe any true Americans were stupid enough to vote for him!" (and her rant continued for a few minutes)

I strongly suspect that she fully expected me to agree with her, but when she finally came up for air I replied: "I'll have you know that I respect PRESIDENT Obama. In fact I am one of those stupid people who voted for him, and was proud to do so."

Her mouth dropped open and it was still agape when I picked up my coffee cup and walked away.
