To be alive still (health problems)
To have a family and a teenage son that still admits he loves me
To see the country embrace many open concepts (e.g.: gay marriage) although there's still a lot of work to be done.
Bombs not getting dropped on my roof.
Water (although I just had to buy a replacement hot water heater )
Free and able to go forth, as much as I can manage.
The spectacle of disintegration that is the GOP.
Peppermint stick ice cream, which I'm going to go get in a second.
The future. There's a lot of cool shit coming down the pike. I wish I could live longer.

(46,436 posts)(as well he should - haha), and my three beautiful daughters who grew up to be such great people. I'm thankful for my six wonderful grandchildren. I'm thankful for the buffet at Alyeska Resort so I didn't have to cook a big meal since the family all live in the Lower 48 now. I'm thankful I live in this beautiful state that I love so much, and thankful for my home, and like you, thankful that there are no bombs raining down. I'm very, very thankful that we're retired but still able to have some fun.
I'm sure there's much more, but I'm too full to think of anything right now.

(46,436 posts)and I'm totally stuffed. Unfortunately, we've had several days of warm weather and rain, so the resort doesn't look quite that snowy, although I read that the upper and mid slopes are fine for this opening day of skiing. Up here in Anchorage, the beautiful snow we got last week is all gone and the green grass is showing. It's weird for this time of year, but I guess it's probably related to "the Nino."
We've had lots of clouds, so haven't had any good nights for the Aurora here in town since the last pictures I posted, but the winter is young. We're going up to Fairbanks in February, and I feel fairly certain we'll see some then.

By the way, the impressive selection of sides really WAS impressive. I was already full with appetizers before we even got to the meats.

(27,630 posts)Health problems would be the main concern but you take it day by day. Best wishes to you!
It's a sad thought, but there is always some other person, same age as you, who is in a limbo-state, really brain damaged, who needs their diapers changed daily.
She failed a suicide attempt.
I know this because I take care of her, along with a whole team of care providers who basically keep her alive after her failed attempt to kill herself.

(2,682 posts)waking up every day (serious health crisis 2 years ago)
my lovely, smart but politically-challenged daughter (my vote will cancel out hers)
my beautiful, smart, Bernie fan, college senior granddaughter (hope for the future)
Social Security (keeping me from living in a piano box under a bridge)
Medicare (so I can continue to wake up each morning)
I'm also thankful for:
Fundie RWNJ relatives who have not contacted me in 12 years
My little town is not a war-zone
We still have abundant, clean water
The air is still breathable
And many other things that have come about due to better regulations and standards that keep industries from poisoning us to death.
So much of what we are thankful for will be negatively impacted by a Republican victory. So we have to get out the vote and save the future.

(2,741 posts)for the family I have left who are on the top side of the grass...
for the career I had...teaching and learning with young people...
for being still alive...
for having a new home...the house is only 175 years old...
for being able to go grocery shopping without worrying about who is carrying a hand-gun...
for knowing that the person with dark skin driving beside me will not be shot by the police...
for living in Nova Scotia...

- For my wonderful children, who grew into adults who'd make any parent burst with love and pride.
- For an awakening populace, beginning to realize that the only way we can survive is to help each other and stand together against corruption and greed.
- For friends and neighbors who really do care about and help each other on a daily basis.
- For health and the ability to do the things I do.
- For DU and all the good people here, as my earlier thread stated.
There's so much more, but these are the top of my list.
And one more, that you listed, Tab - the future! I hope we can prepare the way for it to be a free, equal, peaceful, environmentally liveable world, so our younger generations can fully participate in and benefit from all that "cool shit coming down the pike" - and build a better future yet.
Great thread. And on that note, off to work I go.
Happy Thanksgiving!
