After the Paris attacks, the bombing of a Russian Airliner, and other terrorist attacks abroad, it is apparent that ISIS is no long content to take and hold territory in Syria and Iraq which they intend to be foundation of their caliphate. They have demonstrated that they are now intent attacking the populations of western nations where we live in order to sow fear which will cause us to alter our ways of life.
Here in the US there has been much discussion as to whether ISIS will be able to carry out their threats to attack the American homeland. They have already caused many of our more cowardly leaders to vigorously oppose the entry of homeless refugees fleeing for their lives from the war ravaged parts of the Middle East. They fear that terrorist will try to seek into our country among these refugees despite our thorough vetting process.
In a Huffing Post blog post, Dr. Michael W. Waters (pastor, preacher, professor, author, motivational speaker, and community organizer) reminds us that while ISIS certainly poses a threat, we must not lose sight of the fact that we are already vulnerable to threats from within. Here is an extract from his article, American Terrorist:
In no way are ISIS members heroes to be celebrated. Much innocent blood is on their hands, and, for the sake of our international community, they must be brought to justice. May God bless the dead.
Still, to date, no ISIS member or Syrian refugee has ever bombed or planned to bomb a black church or home. Nor have they walked into a Bible Study in the basement of a black church and unleashed a hail of bullets. Neither are they at fault for the continuing epidemic of unarmed black men, women, boys, and girls murdered by police officers in the streets of America. They have not turned our communities into militarized zones, nor have black people mysteriously died in their prisons. God bless the dead.
