Paris raises the Tricolour flags - plus shirts, balloons and even BRAS...

across the city in scenes reminiscent of VE Day as it honours terror attack victims and vows to 'destroy the fanatics' responsible

* Scenes of French flags fluttering from balconies and shops reminiscent of VE day celebrations in 1945
* Francois Hollande called for everybody to hang flags outside their homes and promised to wipe out ISIS
* 2,000 dignitaries and those who were injured in the attacks attended the service at the Invalides, central Paris
* All 130 names of the Paris attack victims were read out at the service and a minute of silence was held in Paris

Defiant Parisians have been showing their support for the victims of the horrific terror attacks by raising the Tricolour flag outside their homes as the city held a memorial service in the Invalides building.

Locals without flags used a variety of items, including shirts and bras to hang out of their window to symbolise the colours of the national flag in solidarity with the 130 people who died as well as those who were injured in the Paris terrorist attacks exactly two weeks ago.

The city was awash with the familiar blue, white and red colours of France after President Francois Hollande made a special request for everybody to hang flags from their homes. The scenes brought back scenes reminiscent of the day Paris celebrated VE Day on May 8, 1945.

At the memorial service, the French leader gave a defiant speech, vowing to destroy the brutal jihadi group ISIS, who claimed responsibility for the devastating terror attacks.

'We will not give in either to fear or to hate,' said Hollande in the courtyard of the Invalides buildings in central Paris, speaking to 2,000 dignitaries and those injured in the violence.

'To all of you, I solemnly promise that France will do everything to destroy the army of fanatics that committed these crimes,' he said.

LOVE the improvised BRA-flag. I could've managed red and white bras, but don't have a blue one. Used shirts instead, like in the first pic.

This is how French people make do, with their famed "Système D"-- art de la débrouille (art of managing).

Gotta love them.

ETA:

Such an overt show of solidarity and patriotism is a rare thing for the French. They are notoriously individualistic and resistant to any attempts at "recruitment" to causes.

This show of solidarity means that they are really, really angry and defiant.

My mother was naturalised as a French woman in August 2012. She couldn't find a French flag in Avignon, so she improvised (Système D). SO PROUD
