the Cincinnati takeover was mid-70s.

so, 40 years to change the culture away from this polarization. and lapierre won't last nearly that long - he's 67. although he could easily be around for another 20. frankly, I think GOP pols are terrified of personally crossing him.

5. Ultimately, it is always up to the Supreme Court.

This current conservative court, placed mainly by the Bushes, is destructively political in every call. They appointed a President, cut back the Civil Rights Act, and have made sure that the gun lobby, along with the rest of corporate America, are making undreamed of profits.

I imagine there are also people on both sides who cannot abide restrictions on civil liberties, e.g. proponents of Citizens United and child-pornographers.

That too is sad. Really.

15. You're conflating means to do harm with doing harm

The issue in this quote and most gun control laws is mere ownership and possession of firearms (i.e. Keeping and bearing arms) and not the issue of using them to harm. Everyone is fine with people owning cameras, but most are not ok with abusing children (i.e. Child porn). Most people are OK with people having and donating money, but we are currently debating whether political donations to PACS should be limited due to harming the political process (I.e. Citizens United).

There is a difference that the antigun gun folk like to conflate

We have lots of laws about not doing harm with guns.

The OP is about mere the people's right to keep and bear them.
