Then I guess his actions must be exempted from prosecution under the first amendment freedom to the free exercise of insane beliefs in angels, demonic possessions and whatnot. ‘My client was trying to silence the devil,’ said James Fallman, of the defendant charged with cutting out the still beating heart of his associate.

[i[Jarrod Wyatt also cut out Taylor Powell's tongue and ripped off most of his face in a brutal assault that police said looked like a scene from a horror film, officers said.

They claim they found the 26-year-old standing naked over his friend's body with parts, including an eyeball, strewn around the blood splattered room in Klamath, California.

Bad? Certainly we can all agree that this constitutes bad behavior, but just imagine what the man under Diabolic possession must have been up to!

3. Psilocybin can cause substance induced psychosis

It very commonly produces panic attacks, and the history of the drug most certainly includes homicide, suicide, and other very unfortunate events which may be rare, but still happen.

Whether it's 'natural' or not is irrelevant. It's a drug, and like most drugs it has the potential for some very serious and unwanted side effects. It's also possible they got the wrong kind of mushroom.

May have been Amanita muscaria or some other weird ass fungi.

In my experience, Psilocybin causes most folks feel wonderful and laugh their asses off.

There is always the exception though, as you noted.

There are lots of possibilities. He could have gotten a massive dose without realizing it, it could be the wrong kind of mushroom, other drugs may have been involved, or he may have just been the rare type of person that gets a very bad trip from it.

From the description it almost certainly sounds like a drug induced psychosis. The question is what drug or drugs were involved.

In modern times I feel that would put a lot of the reporting in proper context.

I can't explain why.

I just do. Wonder what kind of publication it's from? That would be an .. *ahem* .. clue.
