3 high school basketball players charged with rape, assault of fellow player

GATLINBURG, Tenn. (AP) — Three high school basketball players in Tennessee have been charged with raping and assaulting a teammate in an apparent hazing incident, officials said.

Gatlinburg Police said in a statement that the players were charged Monday in the incident, which occurred last week at a rental cabin.

The statement said staff at LeConte Medical Center called officers Dec. 23 after a young man who had been assaulted was brought there by his basketball coach.

The victim was sent to University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, where he underwent surgery due to his extensive injuries, the statement said.

Police say the boy was in Gatlinburg for a tournament with teammates from Ooltewah High School in Hamilton County.

Their parents are registered Republicans but espouse teaparty talking points.

I could go on, and I bet you I am correct.

Surely the victim was accused of being Gay, I assume?

Is pretty disgusting. Not sure why you think we need to inject politics into a sexual assault issue.

if you have no facts to back it up. Sometimes that's even better since no one else will have enough info to call bullshit on you either.

I'm on a phone so I can't link but there's a team picture on the school website if you care to look.

I don't know many AA teapartiers but it happens I guess. Much more likely however that politics of the kids or their parents had nothing whatsoever to do with this. But by all means, please do go on.

Some actually think they should be charged as adults. I agree

Some say their names and pictures should be released. I imagine they will be eventually.

I can't write some of the comments....racist (basketball comments which are foul), homophobic (horrible and extremely ignorant), and other nastiness. A couple of nasty shots at the president! Ugh!

The family member said, “He was not given a proper exam and collapsed the following day. Once he collapsed, he was taken by ambulance to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville. He had to undergo emergency surgery, as his colon and bladder were ruptured. He is still in the hospital recovering at this time.”

The family member said it was initially unclear as to how he sustained such injuries. However, she said “it was later found that he was beaten and sodomized by fellow teammates.” She said they used a wooden pool stick to sodomize him.

She said he “is expected to recover within 2-3 months. However, he is having nightmares. He has stated that he thought that he was going to die as a result of the assault. In addition, once he is finally discharged he has to wear a catheter and colostomy bag for at least two weeks or longer.”

Recovery is going to take a hell of a lot longer than 2-3 months, to be sure. I hope he can find peace one day.
